Following a service review, we are looking for additional passionate and hardworking Healthcare Assistants to join our Eye Treatment Centre team. We see between 900 -1100 patients per week for a variety of ophthalmic conditions. We are looking for someone who is willing to learn new skills and be part of a hardworking team. Assist in the delivery of a high standard of patient care To carry out visual acuity testing on all patients attending the Eye Treatment Centre To instill eye drops in patients according to agreed protocols Following training perform a range of further diagnostic tests To assist patients whilst in the department for example with mobility issues, to use toilet facilities To ensure that all untoward incidents, grievances and complaints are dealt with in accordance with Trust Policy To ensure that all clinical areas are stocked up To work within all areas of the Eye Treatment Centre as and when necessary within limits of knowledge and experience To be involved in initiatives with the aim of improving patient care Be responsible for maintaining high standards of practice within the outpatient setting #BeKnown at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. Communication: Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, relatives and colleagues, referring to senior staff as necessary. Answer the telephone and relay messages accurately, courteously and competently. Welcome patients and visitors in a professional, friendly and helpful manner. Work effectively as a member of the department team, offering support to colleagues and requesting assistance as necessary. Record care given accurately, legibly, completely and concisely. Participate in the implementation of agreed strategies and plans. 1. Analytical and judgemental: To accurately record and input patient data. Inform senior team of any anomalies noted 1. Clinical Duties: Measure and observe the physical characteristics/condition of patients as follows: Temperature Pulse Respiration Blood Pressure Adhere to the basic principles of infection control demonstrating effective hand hygiene and awareness of potential cross infection. Prepare and support patients undergoing clinical activities and recovering from clinical interventions. Accompany patients to other wards/departments as required. Demonstrate basic cleaning and decontamination of communal equipment between patient use and/or storage. Experienced Healthcare assistants working towards or having achieved an NVQ Level 2 may also undertake additional tasks (following assessment of competence) as follows: Phlebotomy Recording manual blood pressure Blood glucose measurement Use of specific ophthalmic monitoring and assessment equipment
