Job description

To provide support to nursing staff thereby ensuring that nursing time is spent primarily with the patient. To act as the initial point of contact for patients, visitors and callers to the ward ensuring their needs are met promptly and politely. To assist the unit staff in the smooth running of the ward by taking responsibility for the routine, care aspects of the ward organisation. Oversee the management of patient general care on the unit on admission until discharge including overseeing the bookable follow-up care. And to assist the ward sister ensuring and clean and tidy environment at all times.

Admission ,Post operation and peri operational care , Discharge including complex cases , cannulation, & Wound care , basic tracheostomy care etc

To work alongside the nursing team and managers to help instigate new local policies appropriate to the role including teaching and training of staff and monitoring of compliance.

Carry out any other reasonable requests made by unit sister.

To communicate with the overseas team regarding sensitive and complex patients backgrounds.

Good documentation of care in I clip

  • To ensure skills are up-to-date and relevant to the role, to follow relevant Trust policies and professional codes and to maintain registration where this is a requirement of the role.
  • To comply with the Trust’s No Smoking Policies.
  • To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service.
  • To have responsibility for the Health, Safety and Welfare of self and others and to comply at all times with the requirement of the Health and Safety Regulations
  • To work in accordance with the Trust’s Equality and Diversity policy to eliminate unlawful discrimination in relation to employment and service delivery.


Assist nurses with admission and discharge process , Observation monitoring & repositioning and meet the basic care of the patient admitted to ward

Assist nurses with enteral tube feed and care and keep good documentation of fluid balance record in I clip.

Assist nurses with basic tracheostomy care, wound care

Excellent communication skill with patient and MDT
