An exciting opportunity has arisen for keen and reliable individuals to join our teams within the Theatre Complex, specifically the Plastic, ENT and Ambulatory Procedures, General, Thoracic and Vascular, Trauma and Orthopaedic and PACU (Post Anaesthetic Care Unit) specialties

PACU

The PACU is centrally placed in the Main Theatre Suite (of 17 theatres) and has 24 bays (including 4 paediatric bays). We also provide cover for six theatres on level 2, two Obstetric Theatres, MRI / CT (for patients having had general anaesthesia) and the Brachytherapy Suite. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team (nurse, ODPs, HCAs, TSWs, medical staff) you will care for adults and children in the immediate post-anaesthetic / surgical phase.

Trauma and Orthopaedics

We are an exceptional specialist Orthopaedic department with a worldwide reputation for innovation and most importantly for excellent patient care and treatment.

We currently have 5 operating theatres within our main theatre complex involving 2 theatres linked to our major trauma centre. We are currently developing a stand alone 2 theatre orthopaedic elective complex (NANOC).

We have 33 orthopaedic consultants who specialist in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery, elective and trauma. We are currently one of the largest orthopaedic departments in the country with several connections to overseas programs, local initiatives and research projects.

General, Thoracic and Vascular

The General, Thoracic & Vascular Team manage the upper GI Service, supporting all upper GI surgeries including Minimally Invasive Oesophagectomies, Breast Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Colorectal Robotic Surgery, Thoracic, Thoracic Robotic Surgery including VAT’s Video Assisted Thoracoscopic procedures, ( the Norfolk & Norwich being the home to one of the nation’s leading robotic departments) and Vascular surgery including joint working with The Norfolk Centre for Interventional Radiology Department, the unit provides state of the art minimally invasive procedures using advanced radiological image techniques, under the guidance of X-rays, ultrasound and CT.

Key Aspects of the Role include but are not exclusive to:
Moving patients between wards, Theatres and Recovery departments

Assisting in the care of the surgical patient during the peri-operative period by supporting the multidisciplinary team

Supporting the Theatre personnel in providing a safe, high quality environment for the carrying out of surgical procedures by:
  • Assisting The Clinical Practitioners with procedures
  • Providing basic patient care.
  • Assisting in the general upkeep and maintenance of stock levels
  • Providing a safe environment ensuring the highest quality of patient care is provided
  • Prepare and set up theatre prior to theatre list.
  • General circulating duties as instructed/requested from qualified members of theatre team.
  • Assist the safe transit of the patient to and from the ward and between areas within day theatres, before and after surgery, and to ensure safety of any equipment that is attached to the patient.
  • Provide a knowledgeable and safe assistance with the transfer of the anaesthetised patient from the patient’s trolley to the operating table using the hospital policy for manual handling of patients.
  • Assist with the positioning of the patient for a surgical procedure.
  • Undertake pressure area care using pressure relieving practices and devices as advised by registered staff.
  • Ensure all documentation is recorded accurately, legibly signed and dated in accordance with Trust policies and procedures and countersigned by registered staff as appropriate
