Job description

A Vacancy has arisen for Band 2 Healthcare assistant within General OPD at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.

  • Assist the Registered Nurse in the, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
  • At the direction of the Registered Nurse participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care and treatment.
  • Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients.
General outpatients is a busy department operating 8-6 Mainly weekdays although some weekend work may be required. The department facilitates clinics for a wide range of specialties.

Clinical.

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide information to enable the effectiveness of care to be evaluated and records maintained.
  • Involve patients and carers/relatives in the delivery of care.
  • Provide reassurance support to patients and carers/family.
  • Work collaboratively with others in the department to ensure that patients’ needs are met.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
  • Provide escort and transfer for patients, with low dependency, as directed.
  • Prepare and set up clinics, including trays and trolleys, treatment and examination rooms.
  • Tidy and clean rooms and equipment as directed.
  • Chaperone patients when required.
  • During procedures, provide assistance to medical and nursing staff when requested.
  • Undertake agreed clinical tasks, Including , spirometry, physioloigical measurements and mrsa screening under direction from the registered nurse and record this in the patients electronic record.
  • Seek assistance from Registered nurse as required.
Clerical

  • Contribute to the development of services.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Liaise closely with medical and nursing staff, and associated departments, to ensure that clinics are conducted effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensure relevant reports and results are available for the consultation.
  • Carry out post-consultation clerical duties when directed, such as making follow-up appointments and arranging patient transport.
  • At the conclusion of the clinic, ensure that all case notes, X-rays, etc., are returned to the appropriate department.
  • Answer the telephone, take messages and pass onto the appropriate person.
  • Order medical and non-medical stock, maintaining a cost-effective approach.
  • Ensure all equipment is in good working order, arranging repair when necessary.
  • Ensure the tidiness and cleanliness of all clinical rooms, examination rooms, store cupboards and sub-waiting areas.
Clinical Governance.

  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others.
  • Report any concern regarding patient care.
  • Participate in patient and public involvement activities.
  • Support people’s equality, diversity and rights.
  • Participate in Individual Performance Review annually.
  • Develop own skills and knowledge.
  • Attend mandatory training as directed
  • Attend team meetings as directed.
Health & Safety

  • Comply with safety instructions/policies laid down.
  • Use, in a proper and safe manner, the equipment and facilities provided.
  • Refrain from the wilful misuse, or interference, with anything provided in the interests of health and safety and any action which might endanger yourself and others.
  • Report as soon as practicable, all hazards and defects to your senior.
  • Report as soon as practicable, all accidents and untoward occurrences and ensure that the appropriate form is completed
