An exciting opportunity has arisen for Healthcare Assistant Apprentice to work within County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. The post is to provide healthcare support to a dedicated team in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures whilst studying a Senior Healthcare Support Worker Level 3 Apprenticeship.
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Healthcare Assistant Apprentice to work within County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. The post is to provide healthcare support to a dedicated team in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures whilst studying a Senior Healthcare Support Worker Level 3 Apprenticeship. The post is based at Bishop Auckland Hospital Pre Opertative Assessment Unit. Formal training sessions will be part of the Apprenticeship programme delivered in partnership with New College Durham. Training will take place at New College Durham or at one of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust premises. There is the possibility for progression to the permanent post of Health Care Assistant within CDDFT.
Job responsibilities
The apprenticeship entails learning the role of a healthcare assistant, their duties and responsibilites whilst caring for patients. You will be responsible for providing excellent patient care whilst working as part of an effective team.
Main duties of the job
- To assist in welcoming patients to clinical areas and recording base line observationsand ECG recordings.
- To provide assistance during clinical and nursing procedures
- To work with other health care staff
- To liaise with nursing staff and the multidisciplinary teams
- To develop skills
- To ensure the patient areas are kept clean, tidy and stocked
- To support the relatives of patients.
- To ensure that the department maintains a warm and welcoming environment
- To prepare and assist with a variety of tests
- To attend all Trust mandatory and statutory training programmes
- To maintain professional standards with reference to appearance, manner and punctuality
- To attend college lead workshops and complete all academic work in relation toapprenticeship
- To carry out Venepuncture and deal with specimens
- To work within our IT systems ensuring the smooth running of the clinic
- To carry out any other reasonable duties, as required

You must be able to produce ALL certificates stated essential in the person specification or you will not be able to complete pre-employment checks
To be eligible for Health and Care Worker visa sponsorship you will usually need to be paid at least £25,600 per year
We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Entry requirements
Due to the nature of the training role, applicants must be over 18 years old to apply.
This opporutnity is an apprenticeship and in order to access an apprenticeship applicants must be a UK Resident. A non-UK national is eligible to apply if they have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands for at least the previous 3 years on the first day of their apprenticeship and have permission from the UK government to live in the UK.
