Role Overview:

To manage and maintain the established Distribution Centre safety systems and arrangements, ensuring best practice and continuous improvement in a rapidly expanding, fast paced environment.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

• Mentor a Health & Safety Advisor and Administrator
• Work closely and build relationships with the General Manager and Operations Managers, offering help, support and guidance on a daily basis.
• Ensure accident investigation reports are recorded offering assistance where necessary and ensuring actions from investigations are completed in a timely manner
• Ensure detailed reports are provided for the monthly Health and Safety Committee Meeting and ensure minutes are taken at such meetings
• Control the process of ensuring Contractors attending site are inducted, managed and monitored. Ensure contractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements are vetted and permits are issued where required.
• Ensure regular safety tours of the DC are conducted responding to findings as necessary and producing reports for Operations and the Health and Safety Manager.
• Ensure all weekly and monthly testing of first aid and fire safety systems is conducted
• Ensure the Health and Safety Advisors control the content and appearance of the Health and Safety notice boards ensuring articles and notices are updated regularly
• Ensure detailed risk assessments are produced for all tasks and areas of the site ensuring assessments are reviewed periodically
• Assist with the management of site safety representatives offering advice and guidance when required
• Work closely with the Building Services team to ensure all tasks are completed safely
• Periodically audit the safety systems and procedures of any third party contractors based permanently on site
• Assist in the internal auditing and upkeep of the site Safety Management System
• Ensure detailed ergonomic assessments for all tasks and areas of the site are produced
• Perform any ad hoc duties that the General Manager might reasonably request

Skills/Experience/Knowledge Needed:

• Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level
• A minimum of Graduate level membership of IOSH
• Experience of working in a safety related role within a distribution environment desirable but not essential.
• Ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.
• A genuine passion for health & safety.
