Job description
Bernard Matthews has two positions available in our Health, Safety and Environment Department for an Apprenticeship. One position will be focused on Health and Safety and one on Environment.
As an apprentice in Health, Safety and Environment your role is to support and ensure timely investigation of accidents and health, safety and environmental issues and review recommendations for preventative and corrective actions and to ensure legal compliance to all regulations and HSE Codes of Practice.
Key responsibilities:
- Support HS&E audits in line with the company Audit Programme
- To implement and enforce safe working practices in line with the company’s policies and procedures
- Contributing to safety meetings, staff inductions and work-place inspections
- To support management in providing appropriate corrective actions arising from the audits and accident investigations
- To support all inspections by regulatory agencies and co-ordinate the implementation of corrective actions
- Assistance with the production of Risk Assessments and safe systems of work in line with company procedures and current legislation
- Learning and carrying out investigations
- Maintaining suitable records and reports to support monthly KPI / metrics
- Supporting Continuous Improvement activities
- Support with the delivering HS&E Induction and other HS&E presentations as required
- Review and understand regulation changes and their implications to safe operations for the business
- Providing support and guidance on safety related matters across the business as required
- Learning, understanding and supporting the Company internal audit programme
- Perform other duties as defined by the Head of HS&E
- Attend and engage with training, including exams
- Manage your time effectively to complete all coursework, assignments and exams required to achieve the apprenticeship
You will gain:
- Internal audit training and experience
- Practical knowledge of ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 systems
- Practical experience of completing and reviewing Risk Assessments / Safe Systems of Work
- Health and Safety focused - NEBOSH General Certificate
- Environment focused - NEBOSH Environment Management
- Upon completion of this apprenticeship you will be able to join the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) at TechIOSH level
Technical/Professional Qualifications:
- You must have at least 5 GCSEs at Grade A*-C/4-9 (or equivalent) including Mathematics and English
- In order to receive apprenticeship funding you must have the right to work in the UK and meet residency eligibility requirements
