The working pattern for this role and the salary is based on 36 hours per week 3 x 12 hours’ shifts over Monday to Sunday, . (The role is based on a full time equivalent of 42 hours per week).
Our Healthcare Assistants have a unique position taking our participants through their journey whilst they visit our Imaging centre in Reading. With no elements of personal care, you will be involved in conducting a basic medical history interview, taking measurements, venepuncture (training provided) and providing instructions on the touchscreen questionnaire and cognitive function tests etc. You will also be involved in blood sample collection and processing within the onsite bloods processing room.
This position would ideally suit someone with good customer service skills, with a passion for working within a biomedical research setting. We are open to receiving applications from both experienced Healthcare Assistants and University Graduates looking to enhance or gain new skills and experience (training provided).
Key Responsibilities
Ensure participant welfare throughout their visit with good level of quality care
Ensure participant’s details are correctly identified prior to the examination and ensure that such details/unique ID are present and correct on the imaging modality and any associated records
Maintain the confidentiality of volunteers and staff and follow the requirements of the data protection act (1998) at all times
Obtain blood samples via Venepuncture (training provided)
Conduct physical measures to collect data from the participant and enter correctly into the IT systems
Conduct study interviews with participants to obtain health surveillance information
Processing biological samples with the bloods processing room in accordance to Standard Operating Procedures
Liaise with the co-ordinating site laboratory and update on sample numbers using various software
Update co-ordinating site laboratory with any issues that have arisen
Ensure samples are kept within designated temperatures
Ensure all equipment is operating as it should and escalating any issues
Ensure all tasks are completed for the smooth running of the day
Maintain cleanliness of imaging centre
Communicate effectively with colleagues based at site and with those at the coordinating laboratory using verbal, written and digital platforms.
About you
Essential
Have proof of eligibility of the right to work in the UK
Have excellent interpersonal skills and are able to clearly explain procedures and instructions to participants
Passionate about delivering excellent person-centred customer service
Good IT skills (Microsoft Office, Word and Excel or equivalent)
Exhibit attention to detail with a specific focus on quality
Ability to manage and prioritise workloads
Willingness to learn additional skills
Ability to work independently and as a supportive member of the team
Desirable
Familiarity with ISO9001:2015 and/or ISO27001:2013
Previous phlebotomy experience
Experience working within an healthcare/clinical research environment
Previous experience in clinical research environment
Biological qualifications (A-level or relevant degree)
