Job description
We are looking for an experienced Health Care Assistant to provide the highest possible standard of overnight medical and pastoral care for our students. Emergency on-call access to a nurse will be available by telephone. Successful candidates will hold a minimum NVQ level 2 (or equivalent) or a foundation degree (or equivalent) in health care, Safeguarding Children Level 2 and will, ideally, have experience of dealing with minor injuries, caring for a paediatric population and the administering of medication.
Working hours are 9.45pm to 7.15am on a 4 on 4 off rolling rota, with handover from/to the nursing team at each end of a shift.

Desirable experience:

Main duties/tasks include:
· attending to students who are sick in their boarding houses
· care of inpatient students in the Medical Centre
· liaising with the duty staff/ Night Security and domestic team regarding sick students
· administering medication
· assisting in special and seasonal projects in liaison with the College nurses (for example, flu vaccinations)
· consistently and accurately maintaining the medical database and written records together with undertaking such other administrative duties as assigned by the College nurses
· accident/incident reporting, ensuring the relevant forms are completed and passed to the Health and Safety Officer
· arranging and coordinating checks/appointments for students at the local GP surgery, hospital and dentists, including organisng the transport of students
· checking first aid kits and defibrillators throughout the campus
· assisting College nurses with the purchasing/stock control of medical supplies
· attending training courses to update skills and knowledge
· any other task as directed – the above list is not exhaustive
· complying with policies and procedures, including those relating to safeguarding and child protection, health and safety, welfare, smoking in the workplace, security, confidentiality and data protection, and reporting any concerns
Skills/experience:
· at least two years’ experience working as a health care assistant
· excellent interpersonal skills
· proven ability to relate to and care for young people
· proven organisational and administrative skills
· good IT skills
