Job Summary:
Working under the direct supervision of the Nursing Team Leader and Senior HCA, strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care to enable it to run effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Long Term Conditions Health Checks/Diabetic Health Checks
· ECG recording
· Venepuncture
· Spirometry
· Undertake wound care/dressings according to level trained
· Removal of sutures/clips
· Chaperoning GP’s as required
· Setting up and assisting GP’s with minor operations and clearing equipment
· Setting up and assisting GP’s with IUCD insertions and removals and adding appropriate recalls
· Testing urine samples
· Processing and management of specimens
· Vaccine/cold chain storage monitoring and recording in clinic rooms at both sites
· Clearing and restocking all consulting rooms , re-ordering supplies for stock levels from pathology dept at hospital
· Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients’ health and well-being
· Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
· Teaching and educating patients by offering information which enables them to understand and make informed decisions in your area of expertise
· Provide follow up advice to patients, empowering them to have self-control, demonstrating empathy, and support within the smoking cessation programme
· Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
- To undertake any other tasks requested by the team within your competency
- Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
- Being aware of the importance of QOF and recording details on appropriate templates
- Communicate effectively with all members of the primary health care team
- Responsible for entering details of clinical consultations accurately on the computer records, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times
- Responds to emails tasks notifications promptly, actioning appropriately
- To provide an exemplary standard of conduct and care at all times in a professional manner
- Continuously develop own skills and knowledge
- Competent in resuscitation procedures

- In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately
- In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential
- Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data

- Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks

- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
- Reporting potential risks identified
