We are currently looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, flexible and reliable person to join our friendly team.
Working between 25-37.5hrs hours a week, within the Practice opening times of 07.30 - 20.00
Salary from £11.00 per hour - depending on experience.
An opportunity has arisen for a HCA to join our experienced, dedicated and friendly nursing team at our forward thinking, enthusiastic and supportive practice. We have a dynamic team of nurses, healthcare assistants and phlebotomist providing chronic disease management and enhanced services to our 14,500 patient list.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a primary care setting and be happy to work unsupervised. You should be keen to keep yourself updated in the new challenges facing primary care and be prepared to undertake further training as required for the position.
Job Summary
The Health Care Assistant will work as part of the nursing team providing care to patients in the practice. The postholder is expected to work unsupervised and to contribute to the primary healthcare team objectives.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Prepare and clear the room in which you are working.
2. Assist practice nursing staff by undertaking the following tasks:
- Perform venepuncture
- Sort specimens to ensure ready for collection
- Urine dipstick testing
- Blood pressure recording
- Blood glucose monitoring
- ECG's
- Health promotion - including height, weight and lifestyle advice.
- Smoking cessation advice
3. Chaperone when necessary.
4. Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records using EMIS.
5. Report and record all accidents, incidents and complaints and refer immediately to the practice
manager and appropriate practice nurse on duty.
6. Promote good health practice through health education when in contact with patients.
7. Participate fully in new staff development/training and induction.
8. Attend staff development training programmes as appropriate, for example manual
handling and CPR training.
9. To be familiar with emergency procedures, including fire and resuscitation.
10. Attend team meetings for the purpose of maintaining an informed interest in the work being
undertaken in the health centre and to contribute to the primary healthcare team objectives.
11. Be familiar with and adhere to the practice policies and protocols.

Employees will therefore refer any matter of concern to the Practice Manager. Similarly, it is each person's responsibility to ensure a secure environment and bring any breaches of security to the attention of the Practice Manager. All practice staff must be aware of their responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Confidentiality
In the course of your duties you may have access to confidential material about patients, members of staff or other health service business. On no account must information relating to identifiable patients be divulged to anyone other than authorised persons, for example medical, nursing or other professional staff, as appropriate, who are concerned directly with the care, diagnosis and/or treatment of the patient. If you are in any doubt whatsoever as to the authority of a person or body asking for information of this nature, you must seek advice from the Practice Manager. Similarly, no information of a personal or confidential nature concerning individual members of staff should be divulged to anyone without the proper authority having first been given. Failure to observe these rules will be regarded by your employers as serious or gross misconduct which could result in disciplinary action being taken against you.
