Health Care AssistantBarton House Group Practice is a busy, dynamic, innovative Medical Practice with over 12,000 patients cared for by ten GP’s, three Pharmacists, two practice nurses and two Health Care Assistant.We are currently looking to employ an experienced Health Care Assistant with a minimum of two year experience to join our friendly practice. The Health Care Assistant will provide planned care with proximal supervision from a registered practitioner to deliver a seamless service to patients.The ideal candidate will carry out a variety of procedures whilst supporting patients to live a healthier life including patient health checks, phlebotomy, processing and management of laboratory samples, blood pressure readings and ECG’s. They will work in close liaison with the Nurses and GPs to ensure consistency of clinical care. They will also work alongside members of the advocacy, administration and reception teams. They will liaise with Community Nursing colleagues as appropriate. The post also includes a range of administrative tasks to support the clinical functions of the post. All practice personnel are expected to project a positive image of the practice to patients, clients, etc.Hours of work:Full-time (37.5 hours per week – exclusive of a 30 minute unpaid break per full working day). Precise hours will vary in line with current practice requirements and will include a range of sessions throughout the surgery opening hours to ensure patient access and compliance with the requirements of the GMS Contract. There may sometimes be extra hours to facilitate cover, which would attract overtime payments. All team members are expected to provide mutual cover to maintain services to patients. (Currently we do not open on Saturday except during flu vaccination session, but this may change in the future.)Remuneration:Salary: depending on experience: between £25,000 – £28,000.Benefits:Annual Leave – 27 days (plus bank holidays) – rising in 5 year increments to 29 days and 33 days respectively.Pension Facilities – all staff are eligible to join the NHS Superannuation Scheme – this is a contributory pension.Occupational Sick Pay – subject to contractual conditions.Uniform – currently the Practice do not have a specific uniform policy, but this may change in the future. There are however some restrictions around what is considered to be appropriate work wear (eg, no shorts, revealing clothes, ‘street wear’, etc).Flexible Working:All staff are employed on the understanding that changes in the NHS and General Practice in particular will result in the frequent updating and amending of job descriptions and organisational structures. Staff are only offered posts on the basis that they accept their role and function and working hours will inevitably change in line with Practice requirements.Health Care Assistant - Job DescriptionCORE TASKS AND FUNCTIONSThis is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties, but an overview of the post holder’s principal areas of responsibility within the practice. Duties will change in line with developments within the NHS and more particularly within this General Practice.1 Practice Operation and Developmentactively participate in practice and team development meetingscollect, collate and provide data as part of the clinical/organisational audit processaudit personal service provision as required as part of work performance reviewwhere requested, participate in the development of new services, including the documentation of new/revised processes (eg, drafting/amending protocols)be committed to participation in training and education (inc clinical supervision)participate in practice procedures for performance review and appraisal2 Risk Managementbe aware of practice policies on risk management/Health & Safety, and operate appropriate procedures for minimising riskmaintain/monitor personal Hep B status as per practice protocolbe aware of the practice policy on fire safety procedures, and operate appropriate procedures for minimising riskbe aware of and work to appropriate infection control standardsunderstand and apply the principles of ‘cold chain’be aware of Child Protection Protocol and ensure any concerns are promptly and appropriately reportedassist in the identification of potential risks in the work environmentassist as required in the handling of blood and body fluid spillagesparticipate in practice Significant Event Audits (SEAs) and ensure that events known to you are documented and referred to the appropriate personensure that all duties are undertaken with due regard for patient confidentialityensure patient consent is provided where appropriate -
