Opportunity for a HCA with experience of working in a GP Surgery, to join our very experienced and supportive nursing team.
Working days and hours to be discussed with applicants, with the opportunity for extra hours depending on practice need. Salary is competitive and dependent upon experience.
The HCA will support the practice nursing team in the delivery of clinical and administrative services, working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.
The practices uses EMIS, Docman, askmyGP, AccuRx, Ardens clinical searches and templates - experience of these systems is desirable.
The following are the core responsibilities of the HCA. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon practice need. This list is not exhaustive:
- Carry out new patient health checks
- Carry out NHS health checks, screening and measurements
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
- Provide a service to promote healthy lifestyles, including for patients with long term conditions, smoking cessation, alcohol use and weight management
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
- Carry out ECGs
- Administer the influenza and B12 vaccines, on the instruction of a regulated professional and run flu clinics
- Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
- Carry out clinical searches and arrange patient recalls
- Provide education, support and encouragement to patients to self- manage their conditions
- Act as a chaperone for other clinicians
- Ensure specimens are checked, recorded and ready for onward transportation
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
Person specification:
- Healthcare qualification level 3 or 4 or working towards gaining the qualification
- Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate
- Vaccination certification
- Up-to-date mandatory training
Experience:
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Experience of working in a primary care setting
Clinical Knowledge and Skills
- New patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse
- Ability to record accurate clinical notes
- ECGs
Other requirements:
- Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check
