*Job Description * *Job Title: Health Care Assistant* *Reporting to: Care Home Manager* *Role and Responsibilities* *Specific: * To ensure the smooth running of the home continues throughout the day and work as a team member in delivering person centred care in a way that respects the dignity and preferences of the resident and promotes independence and wellbeing. *Generic* *HCA – Role and Responsibilities* *Essential key duties:* * Ensuring residents are assisted with all aspects of their personal care needed as per care plan whilst maintaining the privacy of the resident at all times. * To complete regular documented checks during the shift. During these checks, residents should be clean comfortable and dry, and supported with hydration and nutritional needs if required * To use the on call system as required without delay * Ensuring that residents are assisted in using their personal and mobility aids as per the care plan, ensuring all aids are well maintained. * Ensuring that residents are assisted to take part in social activities by interacting with residents and helping them to continue with hobbies and interests. This would include taking part in organised activities * Ensure that residents receive the best care which is appropriate to their needs, reporting any changes to the Care Home Manager as and when appropriate. * To complete accurate and effective records using the Care Vision system. * To administer medication in line with the homes’ medicines policy if appropriately trained. * To ensure the nurse call system/any assisted technology is working, answered promptly and assistance is given as required. Any faults must be reported to the Home Manager * To ensure the residents’ environment is kept clean and maintained to a high standard and additional IPC procedures are followed * Communicate with all staff regarding the care needs/changing needs of our residents and ensure you have received up to date and current information regarding each resident. This can be done via the Care Vision message system, Care Vision handover or the verbal handover at the start of each shift * To ensure the night cleaning rota is followed and signed when completed * To prepare meals following the menu available and under guidance from the Homes’ cook * To ensure that accidents and incidents are reported to the Home Manager and are recorded appropriately * To deal with any worries or queries expressed by residents/relatives/visitors * To attend mandatory and additional training as required * To actively participate in staff and resident meetings * To attend regular supervision with the home manager. Supervisions may be individual, joint or group sessions. * To attend handover ten minutes before your shift begins * To encourage high standards of professionalism among staff, including wearing the correct uniform, time keeping and behaving in an appropriate manner, and to lead by example *Other:* * To ensure that the Homes’ Infection, prevention and Control procedures are followed to a high standard, evidencing this by auditing the cleanliness of the Home under the guidance of the Team Leader * To ensure that the Health and Safety, including fire safety and security, is of paramount importance to staff, residents and visitors * Maintain and protect the confidentiality of resident information at all times * Document maintenance concerns in maintenance book Name: ............................................................. Salary: £11.00-£12.00 per hour
