Band 3 Health Care Assistants required to work in the Neuro Enhanced Care Unit on Ward 43.

NECU predominantly cares for elective and emergency Neurosurgical patients as well as supporting patients from the Trauma and Neuro Group requiring enhanced observations.

The post holder will be required to carry out a wide range of duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse and with minimal supervision will ensure that high quality care is delivered to all patients.

The post holder will also help to support less experienced members of the team, adhering to Trust Policies at all times.

1. Responsible for own actions, ensuring all patient interactions/observations are communicated to the appropriate healthcare practitioner.

2. Undertake agreed clinical and non-clinical tasks, extending range following training in defined practices. Ensure referral to the appropriate healthcare practitioner where appropriate.

3. Demonstrate technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management e.g cannulation/ECG where agreed.

4. Organise own daily workload e.g use and cleaning of identified medical and non-medical equipment (beds, hoists etc).

1. Frequent processing of patient property and valuables, ensuring accurate documentation where appropriate

2. Support less experienced members of staff in their orientation to the ward and role

3. Utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient data

4. Support the team in expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need

5. Support staff and patients exposed to difficult situations arising in the clinical area e.g after receipt of bad news or following an unexpected event

6. Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.

7. Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards

8. Completion of competencies for Neurosurgery in line with job description within 12 months of commencing Band 3 post
