Mill View Hospitalis looking for Healthcare Assistants to joinCaburn Ward, which is a 17 bedded female acute psychiatric ward. Within Mill View Hospital there are 5 wards and a Health Based Place of Safety.

We value the importance of supervision and on-going training and development. Local to Brighton and Hove, we have weekly bite sized training for staff and each of our wards are committed to regular team away days. We hold daily hospital safety huddles and we are unique in that we always have a senior nurse (B6 or B7 out of the numbers) on duty 24 hours a day to provide additional support and leadership.
As ahealth care assistant,you will be working alongside an established and experienced multi-disciplinary team (MDT). This consists of nurses, healthcare assistants, nursing associates, doctors, occupational therapists, psychologists and the pharmacy team.
You will be required to communicate with patients, relatives and carers and assisting with clinical duties, including personal care and ensuring infection prevention and control standards are maintained. You will be required to train in prevention and management of violence and aggression training (PMVA). These posts are ideal for people who are passionate about helping others, who are aware of professional boundaries and practice accordingly. Applicants should be compassionate, caring, sensitive, warm and open-minded.

Supervision: Supervision has been consistently high for Caburn Ward over the last year.
Reflective Practice: There is weekly reflective practice facilitated by the ward psychologist.
Quality Improvement: We are currently involved in a Nation QI Project to reduce restrictive practice. As a health care assistant, you would be supported and encouraged to be involved in quality improvement projects.
Safewards: This is being implemented and becoming well embedded. It is a new model of care designed to reduce conflict in our acute adult mental health inpatient units.
Training: As a member of the team, you would be supported and encouraged to go on a number of different training opportunities and more when they are available when restrictions lower.

To help our staff thrive in their roles we offer regular, good quality supervision, appraisals, in-depth training and development opportunities. On the wards there is regular reflective practice, bitesize training sessions and team huddles, all with the focus to develop and support our staff.

- Work with the multi-disciplinary team to establish and deliver a therapeutic programme of care for clients.
- To be part of our National Quality Improvement project around reducing restrictive practice.
- Supporting patient care.
- To adopt a flexible approach to hours of duty, in order to meet the needs of the service over a 24-hour period.
- To deliver a high standard of evidence based inpatient nursing care in the designated care group in partnership with the team, the service users and where appropriate their family.
- Report patients condition to qualified staff.
- Document care delivery in patients notes.
- Participate in meetings, training and other work related forums.
