JOB SUMMARY
The post holder will work as part of a team that provides personal care to residents in a community in the care home. The care assistant will focus on the direct specific needs of the individual person within the community as part of the Key Worker scheme.
The Care Assistant is expected to:
· work with clinical competencies with a supporting base knowledge. All care staff will have either completed or are prepared to undergo NVQ / QCF Level 2 /3 or above in Health and Social care. The care assistant can also provide relevant evidence of competence / skills and knowledge which will be evidenced as part of the induction framework.
· Company policies and procedures adhering to the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales under the direction, and close supervision of and reporting to a registered nurse.
· a personal duty of care regarding the use and storage of equipment and participate in demonstrating their own activities to new or less experience staff within their own level of competency.
· following care plans for the residents within their community. The carer will record all person- centred observations and document all care given in resident files. The carer will be responsible for an allocated number of resident files on a daily basis.
· maintain a culture of health and well -being that encourages optimum quality of life / wellbeing, promoting the Respect, Dignity, Privacy, independence, Fulfilment and Choice for all the residents in their care.
· demonstrate a process of continuous professional development, including undertaking all mandatory and statutory training relevant to the role.
· Ensure Confidentiality is promoted within the team at all times to safe guard the resident at all times.
· To work overtime to cover sickness and annual leave to ensure the staffing level and skill mix of the team is correct to support continuity of care to the resident

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES
HEALTH & SAFETY
· To take notice and operate within Health and Safety Guidelines ensuring all areas of the care home are clean, tidy and free from obstacles.
· To have an understanding of issues surrounding Health & Safety and Risk assessment within the care home e.g. Handling and disposal of sharps and contaminated equipment, lone worker policy, manual handling.
· To report all accidents, incidents, and near misses in accordance with Company policies completing appropriate documentation and informing the Registered Nurse in Charge
· Comply with COSHH Risk Assessments
· Comply with Health & Safety training, infection control and COSHH Training.
· Complies with current uniform policy and appropriate footwear at all times.
