We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, initiative-taking, well organised support worker to join our friendly, busy Radiology ultrasound unit.
We are looking for suitable candidate to support with day to day running of the ultrasound unit and at the same time supporting the Radiologist and Sonographer. You will be expected to work independently, however support from other sonographers is always available and encouraged. You must be eager to learn, competent in IT skills and keen to contribute towards efficient service delivery and excellent patient care.
You will need to be caring, kind and willing to really get stuck into the role. It is a hands-on environment where teamwork, communication and organisational skills are vital.   • We are looking for a Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) with the skills and personality to complement our established ultrasound team of Radiologist, Sonographers and HCSW.
  • The ideal candidate will be a collaborator with excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, good attendance record, empathetic manner, and good organisational skills.
  • The HCSW is part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients.
  • Computer literacy/ experience are essential.
  • To support all administration and clerical tasks to ensure the day to day running of the ultrasound vascular service.
  • To facilitate smooth organisation of the department including making appointments, consulting with patients, GPs, and other hospital staff.
  • Be able to work independently within the Department and Trust Guidelines and protocols. Be able to use own initiative to ensure the smooth running of the department, providing a high-quality service to patients and other service users.
  • When required to function as a chaperone during intimate examinations.
  • The post requires a degree of self -motivation and the ability to cope with sensitive/ emotionally charged situations. Maintaining patient confidentiality is of vital importance.
Kettering General Hospital provides acute health care services to an ever-growing population of around 280,000 in North Northamptonshire, South Leicestershire, and Rutland. Our main services are delivered from our main site and satellite outpatient facilities at three neighbouring units.

We are looking for suitable candidate to support with day to day running of the ultrasound unit and at the same time supporting the Radiologist and Sonographer. You will be expected to work independently, however support from other sonographers is always available and encouraged.

  • Work independently (after training) use the Radiology Information System (CRIS) and Trust PACS (Picture Archive Communication System).
  • Be responsible for maintaining the patient record on CRIS. This will include:
1. Receiving and entering new request information onto the correct patient record, ensuring the correct examination codes are always used.
2. Book appointments ensuring the correct appointment letter and associated patient information leaflets are sent out in a timely manner.
3. Book patients into CRIS on attendance
4. Process paperwork for patients that fail to attend for their appointment, make the necessary changes on CRIS, and inform referring clinician.

  • Negotiate appointments directly with patients, either face to face or on the telephone. Following training this will involve interpretation of basic clinical information to ensure accurate timing of appointments. This will also involve addressing any special needs of the patient (e.g., interpreters) and dealing with anxious or upset patients and their relatives.
  • Function as the initial point of contact for all patient, GP, and Consultant enquiries. This will involve giving information regarding the scan procedure and any necessary preparation.
  • Monitor the daily running of the appointment lists, advising the practitioners of any changes, delays or information provided by patients.
  • Manage workloads efficiently and effectively, providing practical support to the sonographers and radiologists to ensure a smooth workflow through the ultrasound room. Check clinic lists every morning, ascertaining where slots are available for ad hoc patients.
  • Use initiative to assist in covering lists in the event of a colleague absence.
  • Undertake miscellaneous, relevant duties as requested by the Sonographers and Lead Sonographer.
  • Checking stock levels and cleaning clinical areas.
  • Ensure Covid- 19 procedures are always followed.
  • Ensure that the ultrasound machine is clean and that all cables correctly threaded over the cable guides. Check all transducers securely placed in their holders after every scan.
  • Change refuse sacks regularly.
  • To attend statutory training and follow the departmental/hospital policies and standard operating procedures both general and specific to the work area.
