Butterwick Hospice Care is the largest independent Hospice serving the areas of the Tees Valley, County Durham, North Yorkshire, and Wearside. We are a registered Charity which exists to freely provide in-patient and day services to adults and children suffering from life limiting illnesses. We also provide supportive services to patients’ families and loved ones. We rely on the donations and fundraising of people and businesses across the communities we serve to fund our services.
We are currently restructuring our Children’s services and an opportunity has arisen for a number of full and part time roles to join the team providing excellent care within our Children’s hospice, which is a 6-bedded in-patient unit providing planned respite, emergency, and end-of-life care.
Main duties of the job
You will be part of a highly capable, motivated and talented team of Nurses and HCA’s to deliver a broad range of nursing and care services.
You will be someone with the ability to maintain professional standards and excellent clinical care alongside the nursing staff. You will understand and appreciate children’s, young adults, carers’ and family needs. You will be enthusiastic and extremely committed to the Hospice service.
Good communication skills, a high level of self-discipline and self-motivation is a must. Flexibility is required to allow for a full range of shift cover – days, nights, and weekends. It is essential that you are able to deal with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
You will have energy and enthusiasm, commitment, good communication skills, and the ability to successfully deal with the daily challenges of complex and palliative care. In addition, you will need to:
· Have at least 6 months experience working in care, preferably with children.
· Be able to provide individual care to a child/young person, such as personal care or specified tasks.
· Be able to contribute to the high clinical standards and quality of care within a team framework, promoting good health practices, and continuity of care wherever possible.
Experience
Essential- Minimum qualification of an NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in care of children. Appropriate and continued personal/professional development.
Desirable- Palliative Care qualification.
Qualifications
Essential- Experience of working in a similar role/environment. Experience of providing timely and appropriate help, information and advice to children, young people and their carers.
