JOB TITLE: Health Care Assistant Days / Nights / Weekends
SALARY/GRADE: Starting £9.55
FUNCTION: To ensure that residents receive a high standard of care within the Home.
HOURS OF WORK: 7.45am to 7:45pm
POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Part time / Full time / Days Health Care Assistant

RESPONSIBLE TO: Home Manager, Deputy Manager, Nurse in charge or by delegation to the senior person on duty.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To attend to all the needs of the residents determined by the individuals physical and mental abilities, and as per their personal care plan.
- Working alternate weekends on shifts.
Personal needs to include: -
Toileting, bathing, dressing, washing, shaving, hair washing, care of sick residents, nail cutting, denture cleaning, exercising, walking, feeding, attending to incontinence, undertake simple first aid dressings, helping into and out of bed, reading etc.
- To undertake additional tasks to compliment residents and visitors well being,
These include: -
Servicing of soiled linen/clothing, serving meals and drinks (including the preparation of the latter when necessary), cleaning personal items of property of the residents, care of linen and clothing (including mending, labelling and buttoning where necessary), tidying wardrobes and drawers, emptying and cleaning commodes, wiping tables after meals, answering call bells, reporting defects and accidents, planning and participating in all forms of social activity, attending staff meetings, making beds when necessary.
- To attend all training courses required in order to remain compliant and increase up to date knowledge and practices.
- To follow Nursing Home Policies and Procedures
- To assist residents to attend appointments, or for other visits, where necessary, guiding residents where required. Accompany residents to hospital in emergency situations as delegated by the Home Manager, Deputy Manager, Nurse or other senior person on duty.
- To assist in promoting the service to the residents, family and friends and visitors or any other person making contact with the Home, in line with the home's objectives, ensuring effective co-operation with all other agencies.
- To read report book and assess the condition of the residents to ensure that care needs in respect of individual residents and day care are set and that such needs are met and regularly reviewed as to remain relevant to the individual. To ensure specific care plans are met as required.
- In the absence of the Home Manager to follow instructions from the Deputy Manager, Nurse in charge or the designated Senior on duty.
- To ensure compliance with Health and Safety and ensure standards are met
- The following consideration should be observed: -
- Respect the dignity and privacy of residents and visitors at all times.
- All information will be confidential to the Home.
- Staff should, wherever possible, be involved in the life-style of the residents.
- To work with all members of staff in promoting any activities carried out.
- To undertake any other reasonable duties which may be required by the Home Manager or Deputy Manager or other Senior on duty,
The following additional duties may from time to time be delegated by senior staff who are responsible for ensuring that any member of staff being asked to act up has knowledge and skills to carry out these duties.
- Contact relevant outside services in the event of an emergency or accident.
- Make any urgent decision and take appropriate action, which is in the resident’s best interest.
- Take appropriate action if another member of staff fails to report for duty.
- Administer prepared medication within prescribed amounts and complete appropriate records, order and collect any urgent medical prescriptions.
- Receive, record and relate telephone messages.
- Respond to illness whether affecting a resident or staff member.
- Recognise boundaries of decision-making.
- Make relatives and visitors feel welcome at all times.
