ROYAL SUSSEX COUNTY HOSPITAL - EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

If so we are looking for individuals with or without experience to work in healthcare, to join our busy Major Trauma Centre (Emergency Department) helping people from your local community.
We will teach you everything you need to know by providing a structure programme in the first few months of starting with us at UHSx. We have the opportunity to work in our busy Emergency Department where you will care for patients arriving by themselves and by ambulance. You will work in all parts of the department providing a range of care activities.
As a Health Care Support Worker, you will be supporting our registered nurses with the initial assessment of patients on arrival including investigations and initial care needs. You will also support patients with their personal needs including washing and toileting, serving meals and feeding patients, helping patients to move around, making trollies, talking to patients and their families and monitoring the patient’s condition. You will be a hugely valuable support to our Nursing teams providing care to our patients. Every day will be different and you will work alongside the rest of the team carrying out a wide range of tasks and assisting with care to support the needs of the patients and their families.
The role can also lead to a range of career opportunities. With the right support, those who want to can undertake the necessary training to become our future Nursing Associates and Registered Nurses.
We will provide the substantive successful candidates with 2 weeks “Prepare to Care Induction” and additional support to those new to health care. You will also have 2 weeks supernumerary period in the ward after you induction. We would like to ensure that we give the best quality care for our patients and the right support for you.

- Work within own level of assessed competence and participate actively in training and assessment; take personal responsibility for booking and participating in all statutory & mandatory training required for the role.
- Follow written policies, protocols/operating procedures and patient treatment/care plans, with support from registered healthcare practitioners available.
- Work at all times in a way that minimises the risk of infection (to patients and self) and maintains health, safety and security in line with established protocols (e.g. hand hygiene, use of Personal Protective Equipment).
- At all times, maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
- Assess (through basic observations) patient health, safety & well-being before and while undertaking any activity or intervention, and respond accordingly.
- Provide concise, legible and accurate data and records of own work (handwritten and input to computer systems, e.g. Electronic Patient Record).
