Valeo Snackfoods is the combination of Kettle Foods, Tangerine, Big Bear and Its All Good and is one of the UK’s top 100 grocery brands. It is headquartered in Norwich and Pontefract and employs around 2,000 people. Over the past few years, we have strengthened our portfolio to include the Metcalfe’s popcorn brand and Yellow Chips in Emmeloord, Netherlands. The business in the UK and Europe generates revenues of over £280 million.

Job Purpose
Deploy the Valeo Snackfoods Health and Safety strategy, delivering on agreed key performance indicators and objectives at the Blackpool site. Work closely with clusters to ensure compliance to all Health and Safety legal requirements, and implementation of best practice solutions. Builds strong internal relationships with stakeholders across the business.
Ensures that all Valeo Snackfoods colleagues remain safe through all aspects of the work.
Key Accountabilities
Protecting our People
- Accountable for ensuring compliance with all site systems and maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensuring all accidents and serious incidents are investigated with learnings shared.
- Accountable for ensuring all works are completed safely and contractors and visitors are managed appropriately.
- Carry out and validate risk assessments.
- Develop and maintain first aid and personal protective equipment and systems.
- Work collaboratively with various management teams to promote and implement EHS practices.
- Work with the HR department to ensure adequate Occupational Health provisions are in place.
- Work with the Learning and Development Department to ensure compliance and an appropriate level of EHS training is provided, recorded and adhered to;
- Support and develop a ‘safety culture’ ensuring compliance with changes to work practice and safe systems of work.
Behavioural Safety
- Accountable for ensuring that a full behavioural system is in place across the KFL sites with positive challenge and feedback from all levels of the organisation.
- Behavioural conversations, including near misses, hazards and unsafe acts are promoted as a way of life and are recorded with the safety forums analysing the results and driving improvements.
- A safety forum exits at all sites with clear objectives, structured meetings and up to date actions.
Safety Management System
- Create and embed a meaningful VSF Safety Management System.
- Review, amend and maintain a system for the identification of risks and the effective application of control measures.
- Create and embed policies for key areas of safety including:
o Contractor Management
o Display Screens
o Personal Protective Equipment
o Manual Handling
o The Provision and Use of Work Equipment
o Security of People, the Brands and the property.
- Develop and maintain a systematic audit schedule of our people, plant and processes, to ensure compliance with all statutory legislation; Include audits for the above policies.
- Ensure the Company is always compliant and that best practice procedures are in place and adhered to.
- Escalate to the executive team any serious breach of the EHS policies and procedures.
Strategy
- Deliver the safety strategy for VSF in a range of areas, including culture, leadership and enabling systems that cover our employees, contractors and visitors
- The safety strategy should include clear measures of success, how the safety culture will look and the role of the leadership in the journey
- The safety strategy is clearly defined and communicated to the business in the form of a road map. If appropriate might be split into individual site strategies in collaboration with the site leadership teams.
Measures and Reporting
- All EHS KPI’s are tracked, measured, and reported as per KFL procedures, and relevant KPI’s are reported monthly to our owners
- The business complies it statutory obligations relating to RIDDOR 2013.
Additional Responsibilities and duties
- Lead projects on health, wellbeing and environmental improvements
- Weekly and Monthly review of EHS performance (including budget) with the Senior Leadership
- Involvement and leading of continuous improvement projects or focus groups
- Supporting external audits
- Supporting and conducting internal audits

HSE Responsibilities (Levels 5 & 6)
Lead by example to set expectations, carry out audits to verify safety systems and procedures are in place and effective. Review accident and incident trends and implement safety plans with improvement targets in your respective areas. Support your teams to implement permanent safety solutions and communicate safety performance to your teams whilst taking accountability safety performance of your teams.

Experience and Qualifications
- Hold the NEBOSH Diploma as a minimum qualification
- Experience of working in a similar role
- Proven leadership experience
- Able to effectively manage people, systems and processes
- Proven experience in people management, strategic planning and risk management
