GRC – Safety and Workplace
Position
We are looking for a Safety, Health, Environmental and Fire Manager (SHEF), who has worked within a laboratory environment to support, manage and mentor the H&S team, work with the department Head to review strategy and processes.
You will:
- Reviewing, managing, and promoting SHEF competence and awareness amongst staff by advising, mentoring, assessing training needs and providing relevant external and in-house technical advice and training on SHEF matters
- Delivering and maintaining effective SHEF operating procedures with associated risk assessments, method statements and in full concert with associated management systems e.g. ISO Standards
- Devising, implementing, and continuously improving the operational SHEF strategy in alignment with existing and developing business management systems
- Lead on audits/Inspections, staff/contractor inductions and lead on incident/accident investigations ensuring root causes are identified, that learnings are effectively communicated, and appropriate measures are implemented in a timely manner
- Ensuring that Operational systems and equipment are fit-for-purpose and robust by maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of SHEF legislation, safety issues, best practice, and new technical solutions
- Owning and collating SHEF data and providing interpretative management reports via internal and external audit/Inspection programmes and report on current and target performance
- Devise, monitor and promote cross-site SHEF surveillance and improvement initiatives
- Deliver a data management system to facilitate the administration and scheduled review of SHEF records including investigations, inspections, training, risk assessments and PPE
Requirements
- Educated minimum A level standard. Degree in a scientific discipline desirable.
- NEBOSH National Diploma.
- Significant and demonstrable experience of working in a tactical H&S role either at a managerial or senior advisory level.
- Demonstrable experience of implementation and compliance with relevant ISO standards, particularly ISOs 45001, 14001 & 9001.
- Deep understanding of risk assessment methodologies and continuous improvement techniques.
- Experienced at identifying and implementing innovative approaches to risk reduction.
- Demonstrable ability to set the vision and lead operational and strategic SHEF strategies.
- Experience of accident/incident reduction methodologies, respective investigations, and root-cause analysis.
- Experience of developing training matrices and delivering SHEF training
- Strong leadership, mentoring and influencing skills with ability to work collaboratively with internal and external SHEF stakeholders
- Effective in communication and negotiation with demonstrable organisational and administrative skills.
- Experience of handling and communicating complex, sensitive and/or confidential information to a variety of stakeholders including senior management and third parties.
- Experienced at collating data, identifying trends, and producing reports.
- EHEDG training and PUWER training/qualifications are desirable.
- Experience of working in a laboratory environment and a food or drink manufacturing facility is highly desirable
