The YouTube team are part of Digital Media, Platforms and Planning within Children’s and Education, and they are responsible for the management and optimization of our YouTube activity across core BBC brand hub channels, most notably CBeebies, CBBC and Newsround. Our YouTube activity serves to build awareness and promote our priority brands and franchises to bring an audience back to the BBC digital portfolio and BBC iPlayer.
The YouTube team create and develop bespoke YouTube formats around our priority brands and franchises, working closely with teams internally in the BBC and externally. Our YouTube activity needs to be of the highest creative standard, authentic to the platform and carry clear BBC attribution, while remaining compelling and engaging for audiences.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe Head of YouTube, BBC Children’s and Education will set the standard for our YouTube activity and will develop a strategy that uses the platform to grow reach and awareness of BBC brands with younger audiences and bring more users to BBC iPlayer and our priority digital products. The Head of YouTube will work collaboratively with independent production companies to support the growth of their brand/franchise YouTube verticals, to increase value back to the BBC through impactful attribution and commercial revenue where appropriate.
The role will ensure our content is authentic, creatively excellent, and trust-worthy to drive reach and engagement with our audience. The Head of YouTube will be the expert in the platform and support colleagues across BBC Children’s and Education, and wider BBC, in understanding audience behaviours, trends and competitor strategies to realise the potential of the platform to reach our goals.
Are you the right candidate?We’re looking for an ambitious, data-driven strategic thinker with exceptional communication and negotiation skills who can drive the YouTube strategy for BBC Children’s and Education.
You’ll have professional experience building and growing successful YouTube channels and you’ll be expert in understanding the platform and culture and know how to unlock this potential to grow brands and engage audiences. You know what makes a brilliant YouTube format and the tips and tricks that ensures content is discoverable and engaging in a noisy space. You’ll know how to clearly articulate creative feedback and how to build ideas and storytelling to make them authentic YouTube content our audience will love. You need to be an effective leader who can drive the creative standard of our YouTube output and be adept at quick and considered editorial decision making.
You’ll have fantastic stakeholder management and relationship building skills so you’re able to work with a wide range of senior stakeholders from across the BBC and externally. You’ll be exceptional at negotiation and conflict resolution, with demonstrable experience with creative problem solving.
