BBC Studios is the most awarded Production Company and the biggest independent producer in the UK. The Factual Entertainment and Events team produce a wide breadth of content including; The One Show, Top Gear, Dragon’s Den, Celebrity Painting Challenge, Junior Doctors, D Day Celebrations, Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby, Antiques Roadshow, Countryfile, Royal Ceremonial Events coverage and much more.
We are looking for a Head of Studio Output for BBC 1’s flagship daytime show Morning Live. The successful candidate will combine a deep understanding of Morning Live's output and BBC Studios' editorial values, with the creative skills, experience and ideas needed to produce first class content which continues to engage our audience in new and exciting ways.
Broadcast every weekday at 09:15, Morning Live covers a mix of content including topical, lifestyle, consumer, current affairs and health advice. The tone ranges from light-hearted to challenging and always aims to reflect the nation's conversation, particularly in the regions.
Main ResponsibilitiesThis is a senior role and requires the successful candidate to have an abundance of live TV output experience, preferably in Daytime or News. This person will lead a large studio team which consists of Content Editors, Studio Day teams and Archive. They will have solid editorial judgement, considerable knowledge of OFCOM regulations and an excellent understanding of the BBC’s core values and editorial policy guidelines. They will be tasked with overseeing the daily live show, ensuring a senior voice is present in the gallery, as well as managing both on and off screen talent. They will report into the Executive Editor of Morning Live and The One Show.
We require someone with extensive managerial experience who values culture and development and will be a great asset to the team. Key responsibilities will include nurturing new talent, delivering regular training and feedback to the day teams and working closely with the Senior Series Producer of the films team to maintain and support collaboration between the input and output teams.
Are you the right candidate?Morning Live exceeds over a million viewers and regularly hits a 28% + share daily. We’re looking for someone full of energy and motivation to continue that growth in popularity. As well being lots of fun to work with, you will be thoroughly familiar with legal, compliance and editorial guidelines and you will have the confidence and authority to make on the spot decisions during the fast paced live show.
With substantial experience as a Series Producer or above, you will have a track record of bringing out the best in those you manage, as well as making TV which gets people talking and promotes audience engagement. Excellent script writing skills, previous management experience on a comparable topical live show, and demonstrable experience of organising and keeping on top of changing schedules in a fast-moving environment, with often contentious material, is a must.
We will require the successful candidate to be based in Manchester and able to oversee the live show from our city centre studio every week day.
