About the role:
The Head of Student Engagement is a new position within the Student Services Directorate to lead and manage a sector leading student engagement service. This will include:
- Working with internal and external key stakeholders to improve business process and systems to drive continuous improvements in student engagement.
- Effectively manage a single student engagement team that supports the work of academic departments to identify students at risk of academic failure on courses prioritised as a key area for improvement within departmental actions plans and meetings.
- Developing sector leading peer to peer support initiatives, activities, and events throughout the student journey in areas such as: inclusive learning, community support services, student voice, enhancing a sense of belonging, international student experience and improvements to student mental health and wellbeing
About you:
To succeed, you'll need a good understanding of the issues and context that the UK higher education operates in and an excellent understanding of student engagement. You will be able to articulate a sector leading vision for this role and have successful experience of managing and developing at least one of the following areas in a Higher Education setting:
- student engagement services
- peer assisted learning services
- peer to peer support services
- inclusive learning community services
You'll be experienced in developing and enhancing policies, services and processes as well as adjusting provision is response to data.
This position also requires you to have an excellent track record of working with staff to resolve complex situations and conflicting demands, which will have required the ability to analyse issues, determine and implement creative and practical solutions.

In recognition of staff contributions to the University's achievements during the 2021/2022 academic year, an additional discretionary payment of 2% per annum will be added to your salary until 31/07/23 in order to ensure consistency amongst existing and incoming staff. This additional 2% will be paid pro rata in equal monthly installments, on top of your salary each month until 31/07/23.
