Manufacture 2030 is a fast growth purpose-led company accelerating global progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We provide companies of all sizes with the certainty they need to hit GHG emissions reduction targets, be it a global corporation or an SME within their supply chain. We give our clients in the pharmaceutical, chemical, retail, automotive and fast-moving consumer goods sectors the confidence the need to hit their carbon reduction targets, while offering their suppliers the opportunity to enhance their operational efficiency, procure more sustainably and drive down costs.
The Role
Are you inspired by the prospect of joining a fast growth and market-leading tech business that's on a mission to tackle climate change by accelerating the transition to low carbon. We're looking for an experienced consultant to leading new projects that help organisations tackle their scope 3 emissions.
- Location: Hybrid: Oxford, UK
- Remuneration: £70-80k dependent on experience, bonus, 5% pension, EV leasing scheme, healthcare package.
- Tenure: Full time
- Reporting to: Global Sustainability Director
Manufacture 2030's clients are looking for us to help deliver transformational change to the carbon impact of their supply chains. In addition to our unique software platform and support services, the door is open for innovative new projects and cross industry programs to make a real, substantive difference.
As Manufacture 2030's Head of Special Projects, you will be responsible for identifying, scoping, costing, selling, and overseeing new carbon and environmental impact reduction projects, programs and partnerships within the supply chains of Manufacture 2030's clients. This is a new role that is well positioned to have a major impact on carbon reduction for some of the world's biggest brands.
While we have some guidance around what this position will entail, much of it will be at your own creation. We are therefore looking for someone who likes to organise their own time and seek out opportunities and make them a reality. We are not a consultancy house, and do not plan to be, but we are looking for someone with commercial consultancy skills in the sustainability sector to join us and develop new work streams.
Responsibilities
You will participate in client workshops, meetings and calls; reviewing client and supplier data; and generally conducting research to identify opportunities for innovation. This will include working with colleagues internally to learn more about the decarbonising challenges in different industries.
This work will help you to identify pain points for our clients and carbon hotpots in different sectors. It will then be your role to scope and propose partnership solutions and once approved, to bring them to fruition. In this role you will have the opportunity to gather data, to analyse and to experiment.
As an example of the type of opportunity you could be working on (and looking to find the next equivalent of): together with our founding pharmaceutical client partner GSK, we have identified an emission intensive group of suppliers – the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) suppliers – who due to their circumstances, products, and location, need additional support to decarbonise their operations.
This has led to a project called ‘Activate' – which has led to an additional four major pharmaceutical clients joining M2030 (AstraZeneca, Bristol Myers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfizer). Activate will see this group of pharmaceutical clients, aided by M2030, support these API suppliers to decarbonize. Initially this will utilize the existing M2030 platform and services but will need to offer specific additional resources & support - which will need scoping as we understand the supplier data and needs.
You will sit on the Product Team leadership group. This group is charged with steering the ongoing development of M2030's product offer.
The role will include a mix of delivery and business development activities, and will be responsible for the project management of any new programs or projects (including oversight of budgets, timelines and resource management). You will need to liaise with specialist sub-contractors and build relationships internally and externally, ensuing that you have the right technical expertise in the team to lead on energy and carbon management, net zero projects, and / or supply chain and scope 3 emissions bids.
Skills
We are specifically looking for someone who can bring consultancy skills to this challenge – for example, the ability to listen and discuss client needs, to identify pain points and opportunities, and qualify the value of solving them.
You will likely have a track record of scoping and delivering successful programs and projects in a previous role, including successfully costing and selling new projects or programs to colleagues and clients. You can demonstrate excellent relationship management skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience, as well as the ability to hold senior level conversations.
Experience
You will bring technical experience of carbon accounting; supply chain sustainability; and/or environmental management, with subject matter expertise in carbon foot printing; life cycle analysis; supply chain sustainability; environmental/energy management; or ESG.
We're looking for 7+ years of experience in consultancy or analytical roles, focusing on carbon, or environmental management.
Some knowledge of one of our sector areas would also be an advantage: Automotive; Pharmaceutical; Chemical; Retail or Fast-moving-consumer-goods (FMCG).
The following things would be nice to have:
- Language skills
- Experience working with different cultures.
- Previous engagement with industry bodies, working groups and standards organizations.
- Exposure to software delivery - for example use of carbon accounting tools / LCA tools, either for direct use or delivered to clients.
About you:

- You bring an experimental approach, with an interesting innovating
- You enjoy identifying and creatively solving difficult challenges.
- You have a deep understanding of supply chain sustainability and carbon.
- You are an effective communicator with a professional approach with clients.
- You're driven by the desire to make real, evidence-based impact on the ground.
What you get
- The opportunity to work with a growing business aiming to make a real difference in the global fight against environmental degradation and climate change.
- Be right at the heart of a solution already working with thousands of suppliers in the supply chains of some of the world's biggest businesses.
- An environment where new ideas and innovation are encouraged and rewarded
- A culture of empowerment, with high levels of personal responsibility given from day one.
