Save the Children UK has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, influential, and collaborative individual with an extensive experience of working within a philanthropy setting, delivering a high value fundraising and stewardship events portfolio to join us as our Head of Special Events.

About you

In this role, you lead a high performing team responsible for delivering our high-value fundraising and stewardship events. These events are deigned to generate vital unrestricted income, engage donors, and stakeholders, and introducing new individuals to the organisation.

You will also work closely with the Partnerships & Philanthropy senior leadership team to proactively drive new business, grow income, and support the stewardship of long-term committed relationships. As a member of the Partnerships & Philanthropy Senior Leadership Team, you will ensure that we continue to evolve our approach to high value engagement and stewardship of partnerships to maintain our sector leading position as partner of choice for companies, foundations and philanthropists.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide strong leadership to drive and empower your team to deliver outstanding fundraising and stewardship events
  • Develop and implement the Special Events strategy to reach income goals
  • Have a solid understanding of donor motivations, philanthropy and event trends & deliver a bespoke journey to ensure continuity of their engagement with Save the Children
  • Lead the financial planning and budget setting for Special Events and reporting monthly on forecasting figures.
  • Work proactively to generate new leads through peer-to-peer approaches, and active networking to introduce new event committee members.
  • Work with the CEO's office, trustees, and senior volunteers to seek new opportunities and to deliver stewardship at the highest level.

To be successful, it is important that you have:

  • A proven track record of personally delivering to defined goals.
  • Experience of developing, networking, and enhancing fundraising committee and donor relationship
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering high level stewardship
  • Experience of leading and developing teams and building a positive culture to succeed.
  • Excellent program & project management, planning and prioritising skills.
  • Impressive influencing, people, and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A commitment to Save the Children's vision, mission, and values.

Ways of Working:

Remote First – The majority of our roles can be performed remotely, however you may work from the office as often as you wish. Whilst you will be predominantly working from home, we may at times require you to come to your contracted office (up to 2-4 days per month or 6-8 days per quarter). Note: This will be agreed with your Line Manager and team. This is intended to be time spent on collaborating with colleagues and relationship building.


On-site – There are certain roles that cannot be performed remotely and so your role will be based in an office location and you may occasionally be able to work from home.
