Head of Sales and Marketing

Postscript Books Ltd is a well-established independent bookseller transitioning from a catalogue-led business to a multi-channel ecommerce retailer.

We are seeking an experienced, creative and highly communicative Head of Sales and Marketing to plan and direct all online and offline sales activities to maximise profits and increase market share. You will have the natural leadership and vision required to manage diverse teams you will take ownership of the existing online and offline Sales & Marketing departments. You will be a serious and dedicated reader with a creative flare who works calmly under pressure and is aware of market dynamics and keeps abreast of trade developments. Your strong understanding of B2C, retail and customer demands and behaviours will influence your brand intentions without affecting our core principles.

You will report to the Managing Director as part of the Senior team and as such you will be jointly responsible for ensuring that we deliver against our business strategy, plans and our promise to customers, staff and suppliers. This is a challenging and varied role, with a high level of autonomy, and you will be pivotal in contributing to the fast-paced growth of the company.

Objectives of the role

General

  • Direct responsibility for Sales & Marketing
  • Develop and implement a dynamic sales and marketing strategy across both digital and print
  • Oversee company-wide branding to ensure brand alignment across all areas of the business
  • Increase our customer base, build loyalty to ensure retention, increase AOVs and develop a customer community
  • Oversee, create and adhere to relevant departmental budgets
  • Oversee the production of monthly reports, including analysis of customer trends
  • Review internal processes to improve efficiencies
  • Promote communication and collaboration within departments to ensure accuracy and consistency in all areas
  • Monitor staff progress, and develop staff appraisals, training and communication within your departments
  • Represent the business, meeting and negotiating with key suppliers, clients and service providers

Sales & Marketing (online and offline)

  • Oversee proposals and provide strategic direction for short- and long-term online and offline sales and marketing campaigns from conception to execution, ensuring consistency across all sales channels
  • Monitor sales patterns, market trends and events and adapt sales strategies to react to shifts in the marketplace
  • Define, establish and direct a multi-faceted design practice ensuring consistency and accuracy across all channels
  • Innovate and lead all design functions to ensure effective brand positioning
  • Be accountable for:
  • all activities relating to the monthly catalogue
  • all activities relating to strategic and operational offline marketing material, including lead generation strategy, advertising, and promotions
  • all strategic and operational digital communications, including PPC, SEO, videography, content creation, email campaigns, advertising and social media
  • Ensure a culture of reporting and analysis is maintained to the highest level

Skills and Experience: required

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a sales and marketing leadership role; B2C environment essential
  • Senior level experience in bookselling and/or publishing
  • Demonstrable success in optimising eCommerce strategies to increase customer base and product sales
  • Proven track record in offline marketing
  • Demonstrable strategic planning experience, strong organisational skills and motivational leadership
  • Creative, enthusiastic, analytical and calm under pressure
  • Full budget, cost control and risk assessment management
  • Educated to master’s level or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and influencing skills as well as organisational and project management skills
  • Proficient in current design software including experience of Magento and DotDigital
  • Solid experience of staff and project management, both remotely and onsite
