We are looking for a Head of Risk to be based in Annesley or Northampton (working remotely up to 2 days per week subject to business requirements).
As the Head of Risk, you will assume a critical leadership role in overseeing and managing the risk management and internal audit functions across Yusen Logistics (UK) Ltd. Your role will involve developing and continually improving effective risk management strategies, frameworks, and internal audit processes to identify, assess, and mitigate potential significant risks, while ensuring compliance with policies, regulations, and industry standards. This role requires a strong understanding of risk management principles, internal control systems, and the ability to provide insightful recommendations to senior management and the board of directors to drive strategic decision making.

Key responsibilities:
1. CORPORATE RISK MANAGEMENT
a. Oversee the identification and mitigation of significant corporate risks that have the potential to impact achievement of the business’s strategic objectives, by advancing the company’s risk management framework and culture, influencing senior management across the business including the Board of Directors.
2. OPERATIONAL RISK MANAGEMENT
a. Embed a positive risk management culture across all levels of the organisation, influencing stakeholders to consider risk management as part of their day-to-day tasks and routines, ensuring risk management is a key element of business wide decision making.
3. INTERNAL AUDIT FRAMEWORK
a. Oversee an independent internal audit function that is focused on mitigating key risks and identifying key weaknesses throughout the organisation, by assessing and reporting on the effectiveness of the Company’s internal processes and controls, both financial and operational, using defined audit methodology.
4. PROCESS LED INVESTIGATIONS
a. Add value through completion of detailed investigations and ad-hoc reviews, focusing on commerciality and providing an independent mechanism to de-risk the business.
5. MANAGEMENT INFORMATION AND REPORTING
a. Develop and continually improve state of the art risk and audit systems, that underpins efficient and effective risk identification and mitigation, whilst providing real time information to senior management that drives key strategic decision making.
6. PEOPLE
a. Management and coaching of individuals’ operational activities. Provide leadership and encouragement.
b. To manage and monitor levels of performance through delegation and objective setting with involvement of others.
c. To identify and ensure delivery of training requirements of all colleagues to ensure continuous and progressive improvements for both the individual and the operation.
d. Ensure all company procedures, including absence, performance, holiday, etc are managed and adhered to.
Key requirements:
- Institute of Risk Management qualification or quality based qualifications such as Certificate or Diploma in Enterprise Risk Management, CQI and IRCA Certified Lead Auditor, or NEBOSH Certificate
- Qualified accountant (AAT etc.) or qualified by experience
- Significant corporate experience, working at a senior level preferably within risk, audit and/or business systems environments
- In depth understanding of risk, audit, compliance, quality and general corporate governance issues
- Experience of leading ad developing a highly performing team
- Significant exposure to financial controls and processes
- Detailed knowledge of quality standards and modern audit techniques
- Proven track record of driving forward and implementing risk, audit and quality frameworks
- Resilient, a strong communicator at all levels of the business, analytical, process focused, high attention to detail, robust at planning and organisation
