Mitie /Communities is one of the four major business divisions within Mitie, alongside Technical Services, Business Services and Central Government & Defence. At Mitie Communities we serve public sector clients in Healthcare, Education (schools and universities), local authorities and councils and emergency services. We provide our clients with both soft and hard facilities management services. Our contracts include both commercial output-specified contracts and Private Finance Initiative contracts.


Position Over-view

This role is national and so location of employee is flexible.


Mitie Projects is the projects central function within Mitie and is developing into a class leading function that supplies and supports exemplar performance for the end-2-end projects process across the Communities portfolio of contracts.

The Projects workstream within Communities is significant and its Education Sector has a significant pipeline of both Lifecycle and Capital projects across its portfolio of schools.


The role of Head of Projects for Education is a key central function role covering our national portfolio (including Northern Ireland) which provides senior management, support and guidance to each contract and the projects teams within them, as well as central function PM's and supply chain partners supporting the development and delivery of projects. The role focus is to develop and achieve high performance from the projects teams and to target and support growth opportunities within existing and new contracts and clients.


The role will report direct to the Director of Projects and as such will be one of senior leadership where the successful candidate will be part of steering and managing the Projects central function including supporting the reporting, management, and wider integration of the Projects function within both the Communities BU and the wider Mitie Group. This will at times include representing the function for activities outside of just the Education workstream.


Responsibilities

  • Have line management responsibilities for FM contract embedded project team leads.
  • Have management duties on central function project resources that are working on projects within your sector.
  • Manage, with wider projects colleagues, any third-party suppliers involved in the delivery of projects within your sector (including both professional services and delivery suppliers).
  • Provide strategic support to each Education FM contract and the Mitie Education Executive team to both develop performance and growth strategies but also to enable and deliver them into the portfolio.
  • Support and guide each contract projects team and any associated projects central function resources in the development and realisation of the lifecycle and capital projects pipelines.
  • Monitor and report on the delivery of projects within the sector against key metrics and to the frequency and quality required.
  • Work with the contracts to identify support requirements and enable these to be provided through with the Projects central function or through third party resources where appropriate.
  • Build an effective and meaningful projects pipeline within the sector utilising internal and external support where required to enable and pursue opportunities and growth.
  • Target growth within the sector in line with the Communities' BU growth objectives.
  • Build effective relationships with operational leads within the contracts and sector to support performance, management, integration and development of both the Projects deliverables but also the wider contract needs.
  • Look to identify innovation, efficiencies and growth opportunities within both lifecycle and capital projects workstreams where any benefits can be had.
  • Provide input and support in new client opportunities including input into bids and new pipelines
  • Work with the procurement team and wider Mitie Group on procurement strategies and opportunities
  • Be part of solution development for new opportunities either within existing contracts or new clients
  • Support of development of sector specific marketing strategies and application and delivery of these.

Knowledge, skills & experience

  • Track record of the development of lifecycle and capital programmes, planning, forecasting, delivery and reporting in a complex, commercial, multi-divisional organisation.
  • Understanding and experience of the Healthcare sector and developing Project delivery strategies in this environment
  • Experience of working in complex PFI contracts as well as direct to Authority.
  • Experience of, and background in, the FM sector.
  • Sound understanding and application of regulations and standards applicable to project works and working practices in the Education sector.
  • Experience of supporting the development of Projects, FM, asset and support service strategies
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and under their own steam
  • Proven ability as a manager for all levels of resources.
  • Track record of working with and managing complex and senior stakeholder teams both internal and external

  • Deliver as part of the projects team our budgeted Communities Projects numbers for revenue, profit and cash
  • Ensure that every Communities contract that has projects spend has a performance plan including financial, operational and client experience goals and sustainability and social value objectives. Ensure that the right progress is made against these plans
  • Coach, lead and support the Communities projects team in conjunction with the projects Director to deliver their contract, regional or Sector-level performance plans
  • Establish deep, strong relationships with your key clients and support and coach your projects representatives to do the same
  • Support and facilitate the generation and the delivery of lifecycle plans that provide a service-user experience for Communities that are exemplar.
  • Meet all required compliance standards, including technical, QSHE, and commercial compliance

Growth

  • Work with Business Development and the Director of Projects to make sure that the Mitie Communities sales strategy (client targeting; bid/no-bid; bid strategies) will deliver the sector's revenue growth and margin ambitions
  • Deliver against agreed revenue targets from our ‘Mitie 1st' strategy – providing Projects, Energy and other Mitie products and services to current clients.
  • Own the 3-year growth plan for Mitie Projects and ensure that our work across People, Performance and Growth is in line to deliver these long-term targets
