We are currently recruiting for a Head of Project Management for a team of 6+ project managers who are part of the Project Management and Performance team within Operations.
At any one time, the project managers work on multiple fast-paced consultancy projects, research projects and operational/implementation projects. This role will be responsible for mentoring, leading, and developing this globally based team as well as having some project management responsibility of their own.
This role will be based in London, UK.
Purpose of role
Leadership of a global project management team which delivers project management, quality assurance, and ensures on-time-and quality delivery for research, consulting engagements, Operations initiatives.
Key responsibilites and scope of role
People Management
- Provides clear directions to team members about business priorities and performance expectations
- Deploys teams in an effective way, balancing delivery of goals with skill development
- Encourages collaboration, teamwork, and open communication within the team and across the Project Management & Performance team and wider organisation
- Demonstrates commitment to change and actively supports others to adapt to changing circumstances gaining buy-in and commitment through effective involvement and communication
- Provides day-to-day level support to project managers and maximises performance in the team through regular check-ins encouraging continuous improvement
- Provides effective feedback and coaching to team members and identifies development needs to support them
- Upskills and develops the team and promotes project management best practice across Informa Tech teams
Project Governance, Standards and Assurance
- Creates, owns, and maintains the approach and controls to Project Management governance and delivery, including process, tools, methodologies, and systems.
- Drives adherence to the Project Management governance, framework, and delivery methodology, ensuring consistency, optimisation and best practice are embedded in project processes
- Seeks opportunities for continuous improvement, optimisation and innovation of the Project Management framework and processes informed by an understanding of evolving project types
- Ensures project delivery is aligned to and delivered in accordance with standards, and best practice guidelines
- Ensures the team uses risk and issue management effectively
- Develops reporting standards and KPIs for the Project Management team
Resource and Demand Planning
- Works with the Director of Project Management & Performance, Head of Continuous Improvement, Business Information Lead, Content Leads and Consulting Directors to manage pipelines effectively and work collaboratively.
- Plans and resources projects with the right capabilities, agreeing availability of resources internally and potentially with outsourced service providers and third-party suppliers
- Manages, assures, and tracks projects plans and resource needs
- Facilitates on-boarding and off-boarding of resources to projects
Project Support
- Provides centralised and consistent support to projects and SME expertise on the processes to project managers
- Works directly with our clients, project teams, third parties, analysts, consulting leads, and key stakeholders to develop delivery plans, monitor progress and budgets for syndicated, consulting, and operational projects
- Using agreed frameworks, proactively manages risks and issues across the portfolio by coordinating the consistent identification, documentation, monitoring and reporting for resolution
- Provides speed and agility in project decision making, identifies opportunities to improve ways of working, and removing barriers to progress
- Create a program to promote project management utilization within all functions of the business, and looking for areas of underutilization of this resource/practice
What we are looking for:
- Proven experience of leadership skills with previous team management responsibility
- Significant experience of project delivery/management preferably in a fast-paced environment with both internal and external clients, including strong project control and governance skills
- Excellent organisational skills and a proven ability to manage multiple tasks at any given time
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and ability to collaborate effectively across groups and time zones
- Demonstrated ability to succeed in a complex matrix organisation with diverse stakeholder groups
- Experience in the design and implementation of operational processes ideally in a research, consulting business and/or operations
- Third party relationship management including contractors, vendors, and technology license providers desirable
- Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting resources
- Existing project management qualifications (e.g: PRINCE2, Agile, PMI, APM)
- Experience in Continuous Improvement (CI) frameworks and methodologies (preferred)
- Experience in the technology market intelligence business including knowledge of research processes and methodologies (preferred)
