The Dunelm Non-Stock (GNFR) Procurement team delivers optimal value to the business through an effective procurement policy, supported by a tenacious team of procurement professionals.
Over the last 3 years, the Dunelm Non-Stock (GNFR) Procurement has made significant inroads into all areas of the business, but the business is on still on a journey to strive and progress towards a highly developed and mature world class Procurement function. As part of that journey, Dunelm are now in the process of implementing a P2P solution to further enhance capability.
People are a vital catalyst to this change and the Exec Board is hugely supportive of the team and its’ contribution, so you would be joining at a really exciting and crucial time!
Responsibilities include:
Reporting to the Finance Director, you’ll be responsible for leading a team of Procurement professionals and the indirect procurement strategy.
You’ll be accountable for a mix of strategic and tactical sourcing initiatives across all indirect categories to maximise efficiency, through savings, innovation or performance, across all business areas.
The role will also ensure compliance with all aspects of legal and corporate policy and governance, ensuring that Dunelm maintain their strong credentials on CSR, modern slavery and tax evasion.
All areas of non-stock expenditure are in scope, with the key areas listed below:-
- Store Development
- Logistics / Supply Chain
- Technology
- Marketing (including Digital Marketing)
About you:
- Act as a ‘visionary’ to continually lead, improve and direct the Procurement function
- Champion Procurement within the business and with key suppliers to maintain overall stakeholder engagement
- Create, lead and develop Procurement related training within Dunelm to instil a greater overall commercial awareness
- Design and develop the procurement strategy in line with the longer-term strategic objectives of Dunelm
- Lead the Procurement team to measure and enforce a robust procurement policy/process, including resource prioritisation, in accordance with legal and financial governance ensuring that suitable contract provisions are in place with key suppliers providing support to the business in agreeing contract terms in liaison with Legal
- Provide all the necessary tools, templates and, where possible, systems to enable the most effective use of the GNFR team resources
- Continual evaluation of new Procurement tools and technologies which may drive further value to Dunelm
- Support the business in their implementation of supplier management, development or review programmes (i.e. managing supplier business reviews and following continuous improvement action plans where necessary) to ensure suppliers provide quality goods and services to Dunelm
- Support the CFO in the review of business investment proposals over an agreed spend threshold
- Participate in negotiation strategy development and conduct high level negotiations to ensure value delivery in line with the Dunelm business strategy, this includes leading and owning a number of large strategic contracts.
- Work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to develop, measure and enforce strategies across all categories of indirect spend; delivering exceptional results on cross category opportunities
- Utilise market and commodity analysis to support sourcing decisions including recent economic and market trends and developments and other external factors
- Continually challenge operating practices with industry best practice and propose change strategies to drive best value for the business to enhance business profitability
- Keep abreast of existing and emerging Procurement technologies which may drive additional value add to Dunelm (e.g. P2P)
- Agree and track hard savings as well as less tangible value benefits with corresponding stakeholders and Commercial Finance
- Work collaboratively with functional stakeholders whilst ensuring the execution of the principles of robust procurement, legal and financial governance & policy

Skills and Qualifications Required:
- Extensive procurement experience with a significant time spent in a similar indirect role
- Excellent negotiation skills, with clear evidence of successful outcomes on large expenditures
- Significant experience operating at senior management level
- Ability to challenge and influence the business at all levels; being the voice of constructive dissent to help reach better outcomes
- Resilient in the face of adversity and able to adapt at pace where needed
- Broad understanding of business financials including cost levers and value chains
- Broad understanding across all areas of an organisation including how functions collaborate and work cross-functionally to deliver business objectives
- Sound business acumen and commercial awareness and the ability to identify key issues and risks before they arise
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of procurement professionals and specialists with emphasis on coaching them to unlock their capability and grow their careers
- Excellent planning and organisation skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and the ability to work to tight deadlines
- Assertive and confident in a high-pressure environment with a high level of personal and professional credibility;
- Sound knowledge of contracts and contract law
- Growing the talent and capability needed now and in the future, creating great learning experiences for the team both within the procurement team, and in other related business functions.
