Introduction

DB Cargo (UK) are currently recruiting for a Head of Procurement Lead the team to work towards a Procurement Centre of Excellence (World Class Procurement), supporting and maximising efficiency whilst contributing to DB Cargo (UK) Ltd EBIT. Leading, coaching and motivating a professional procurement team to deliver maximum results and efficiency through managing effective supplier contract management, supplier relationship management, inventory optimisation and logistic efficiency.


The Procurement team is predominantly based in Toton in Nottingham, however due to the nature of the role UK wide travel will be required. DB Cargo have adopted a hybrid working model so there is some flexibility with regards to home working, however, it is expected that the successful candidate would be within a commutable distance of Toton, Nottingham.




What will you be doing?


Here are some of the responsibilities that the successful candidate will have on a day to day basis:


Implementation, development, and coordination of a company-wide procurement policy to control costs at all levels, rationalising purchasing and educated employees on the purchasing process in line with the respective Corporate Guidelines and aligned with other applicable DB and DB Cargo Guidelines and policies.


Development of an annual business plan to meet customer expectation for the provision and maintenance of locomotive, wagon and other business services requirements including third party maintenance requirements to ensure efficient and economical running of DB Cargo UK fleet.


Implement clear Key Performance Indicators to clearly monitor performance and continue to drive continuous improvements to contribute to the overall success of the business, by supporting each business area as required.


Lead the relationship with suppliers to ensure delivery of EBIT and the balancing of short and developing the long-term supplier relationship where it is commercially advantageous for the business. negotiating key commercial contracts, manage the negotiation process within the business and establish standard contractual models for use with suppliers.


Manage and mitigate risk through clear risk management disciplines.


Motivate the Purchasing team to ensure the most cost effective procurement process, including provision of market information and best buying system to deliver measurable savings.


Development of a clear Category/Supplier Strategy and a consistent management in terms of qualification, evaluation and development to ensure continuous supply.


Interaction with the International Teams of DB Group and other UK entities to seize the opportunities from bundling purchasing volumes by applying maximum supplier leverage. Including collaboration with other UK DB entities where possible.


Engage and energise all team members to contribute to the success of the business based on effective communication both upwards and downwards, timely feedback on performance and providing realistic opportunities for career development through continuous development.


Who are we looking for?


You will have demonstrable experience in a role at a similar level or extensive experience as a Senior Product Manager looking for your next step.


You will be able to demonstrate your ability to manage and motivate a large team as well as significant experience within a procurement role.


You will be extremely customer focussed with an ability to manage key stakeholders within the business leveraging your expertise in procurement.


A confident communicator with the ability to effectively manage supplier relationships to the overall benefit of the organisation.


Qualifications that support your position are also highly desirable including a degree in a related field or management.


The role does require you to be fully CIPs Qualified.
