Age UK has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Payroll and HR Administration to join our senior People team, leading on delivering an excellent Payroll and HR Administration service to our wonderful teams doing great things for older people.

This is a new role within the team, introduced to drive efficiencies and develop our internal processes and enhance our internal customer experience for our people, people managers and our leaders.

As Head of Payroll and HR Administration, you will oversee all HR administrative processes as well as our vital payroll function, this new role will complete our newly restructured senior people team, reporting directly to the People Director, working as part of a cohesive network of HR professionals, each of which bring their own talent and experience to the team.

Within this role, you will provide leadership for the HR operational functions including HR administration, pensions, benefits, and payroll to ensure that all systems and processes are lean, efficient and protect the interests of the charity as well as those who work with us.

You will develop and establish a robust admin and payroll operational plan including the process between operations and payroll, information sharing across the organisation as well as the best use of all systems and tools available to the teams.

The salary offered for this role is £58,000 - £64,000 (London based) or £55,000 - £61,000 (based in Ashburton) per annum.

With our hybrid model, this allows colleagues to work in a way that suits them with some office attendance to build great relationships but also balanced nicely with the flexibility that working from home can bring, helping us all to manage our work and home commitments more effectively.

You will have:

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a leadership or management level role in Human Resources operations, administration and payroll.
  • Experience of managing an outsourced payroll provider as well as an in-house solution.
  • Some HR project management or lead experience.
  • A good understanding of all statutory requirements related to handling payroll and HR administration.
  • Proven ability to use Microsoft Excel to set up spreadsheets, analyse and process data.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Results focussed with the ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines whilst maintaining a focus on professional standards.
  • An ability to quickly foster excellent relationships at all levels, inspiring direct reports, and their teams.
  • Good communicator with the ability to negotiate and influence.

This role is offered on a Hybrid contract and can be based from either London or Ashburton, Devon.
