As a member of the new L&D leadership team, you will actively shape the learning strategy and roadmap for both Stores and wider M&S as a whole. You'll be ensuring that the unique challenges of learning delivery in a store environment are understood and met, and that solutions are in place for the specific compliance and technical training needs of our 50,000+ store employees.

Combining a strong commercial mentality with deep expertise in learning and development, you will build respected and trusted relationships with business partners across M&S, working collaboratively to identify and prioritise learning needs aligned to the business strategy and people plan.

You will motivate changes in how we work, so we are more proactive and outcome-focused. This will require you to shape perspectives of business partners and colleagues, bringing them along on the change journey.

You will lead, coach and develop the Stores Learning Partnership team to effectively perform their roles, grow their careers and work in an agile way on power teams to deliver critical projects.

What you will be doing:

  • Work with the Learning Leadership Team to develop new ways of working within L&D. Lead the change within the Stores Learning Partnership teams, building capability and setting standards for performance. Develop and lead an impactful team of strategic Learning Partners.

  • Working with HRBPs and business unit MD’s/Directors/Leadership teams to create a culture of that values learning as a strategic driver of the business and personal growth; where people actively own their development with support from their manager

  • Providing expertise and consultative approach to identify capability gaps and developmental needs across technical, core and leadership skills. Lead the process to gather and review learning priorities across the business units.

  • Ensuring the learning strategy and roadmap is based on business insight and reflects the priority capability needs of Stores.

  • Build a robust approach to compliance training within Stores, and use this learning to apply an approach across M&S, ensuring that all colleagues are trained to meet compliance standards.

  • Share insights, outcomes and data to tell the story of the impact our learning solutions are having on business and people performance. Make the connection between business, people and learning plans and outcomes.

Skills you will need:

  • Experience working as a learning partner within large, complex organisations

  • Deep understanding of the planning, design and delivery of learning specifically for retail employees, managers and leaders especially in a highly regulated, compliance focused environment

  • Strong consultancy skills: a trusted advisor to senior business and HR leaders; able to constructively challenge where needed

  • Inspiring people leader and team manager able to motivate change within a team and develop individuals to adopt new ways of working

  • Strategic problem solver able to build credible learning strategies and plans

  • Able to use data to demonstrate the business impact of learning solutions, and build cases for investment

  • Teamwork oriented with demonstrated experience working in a collaborative, agile team environment

  • Advanced IT skills, including the use of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Credible and engaging facilitator and presenter to senior teams and business partners
