BACKGROUND
The Blair Partnership is a literary and entertainment agency. We offer our clients a broad range of services including rights management, client representation and franchise management. There are three core pillars to our business activity:
- Franchise Management – which encompasses brand & franchise vision and strategy, creative strategy & direction, product development, brand management & comms for the Wizarding World franchise.
- Client Management - we bring our clients’ stories to audiences around the world. We represent our clients’ literary and entertainment rights portfolios and pursue commercial opportunities for our clients through deal making in the UK, US and internationally, partner management and backlist rights management.
- Governance & support - we provide governance and support to companies owned by J.K. Rowling (as well as other companies owned by Neil Blair). Those entitles include Pottermore, Bronte, HPTP, all owned by J.K. Rowling, as well as Snowed-In, a TV Production company owned by Neil. As part of that support, we cultivate close collaboration & strong, cohesive working practices between all the businesses.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
- This role will be focused on strategizing and executing an ambitious course of commercial growth for the International Rights and Licensing of TBP clients, as well as growing the International Rights brand and footprint of the agency and its clients.
- Partnering consistently with the primary agents to ensure there is a “One team” approach to our thinking & delivery with Clients and prospects
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
- Commercial growth of the International Rights business: responsible for plotting and executing an ambitious course of growth for the International Rights and Licensing of TBP clients including Robert Galbraith, with clear commercial targets to be agreed with the MD, Client Management, as well as the Agency Finance Director
- Growing the profile and reputation of TBP to become one of the leading International rights operations, with increased presence at the Book Fairs and in the publishing community
- Exploiting a comprehensive network of International Publishing relationships across all categories of publishing (Adult and Children’s Fiction and Non-Fiction) in all languages and territories, with the ambition of growing volume and value of deal-making for TBP clients
- Partnering with the primary agents to set out clear commercial goals for the financial year and putting in place a broader 3-year commercial plan with the MD and Agency Finance Director
- Responsible for managing the Assistant, International Rights, to ensure the timely execution of contracts and other crucial pieces of client management administration
- Accountable for setting & delivering the forecast for International Rights & licensing of TBP clients
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- An extensive knowledge of and network in the International Publishing landscape
- Substantial experience of deal-making at the highest level
- Organised and structured approach to building a business: setting and adhering to well-defined commercial goals
- A solid history of encouraging an innovative approach to business growth and development
- Have grown and developed teams and worked closely with primary agents
- Proven ability in stakeholder management and brand-building at International Fairs
- Multiple examples of providing creative solutions to challenges faces in opening up new markets
- A proven communicator, whether via written or verbal channels
- Enthusiasm and self motivated
- Confident and solutions focused attitude
