Job description

As Head of Heathrow Operational Delivery, you will be overseeing delivery of a safe, on time operation at Heathrow. It’s a unique opportunity to lead the team that runs BA’s operations at one of the most high-profile airports in the world.

To do this, you’ll need to lead and inspire a large team operating across varied functions including the Airport Centre, Allocation, Airport Resolution Centre and Dispatch. You'll be a highly visible leader, able to make timely considered decisions, anticipating and responding to disruption to minimise the impact on customers and colleagues. You will also be comfortable collaborating with colleagues and external partners and able to ‘keep calm and carry on’ in a fast-paced environment. You will also be a strategic thinker, able to balance delivering the ‘day-to-day’ with developing the strategic interventions needed to improve performance at Heathrow. You will also add your expertise and challenge to the Heathrow Lead Team which is focused on delivering A Better Heathrow for our customers and colleagues.

Key duties

  • Overseeing delivery of the on-the-day Heathrow operation, with a particular focus on safety and punctuality
  • Developing and implementing the strategic interventions and continuous improvement mindset which will ensure delivery of operational performance and business targets
  • Leading a large team which combines four related and interdependent, but distinct, functions: the Airport Centre; the Airport Resolution Centre (ARC); the Heathrow Allocation team; and Dispatchers (ADMs)
  • Managing suppliers (including contract management) such as CallBA
  • Leading by example to create an inclusive and psychologically safe team culture
  • Acting as a key member of the Heathrow Lead Team

About you

  • Broad, practical experience of leading and managing in an operational or planning environment
  • Ability to build and maintain strong networks across boundaries with both internal and external partners
  • Able to deal with ambiguity by balancing the often-conflicting demands of commercial and operational requirements versus resource capacity
  • People management in a change environment.
  • Ability to deliver performance and make change happen in a complex employee relations environment
  • Excellent planning, numeric and analytical skills with an ability to present complex analysis in simple terms.
  • Ability to use data to analysis issues and identify solutions
  • Prioritises operational, urgent and strategic business issues effectively
  • Ability to stay calm and focussed during operational and other challenges
