The Head of Financial Management is a key member of the finance leadership team reporting to the Associate Director of Finance and establishing a good working relationship with the Trust’s Director of Finance. This role acts as lead for all aspects of financial management for the ‘group’ (hospital Trust and company - DSFS) with responsibility for establishing, reviewing and improving all financial management processes and systems.
You will be responsible for the ongoing development of all financial aspects of the budgetary control process, and lead on the annual budget setting process. Responsible for overseeing and understanding the totality of the group financial position, ensuring that financial forecasts include impact of activity projections, identification of potential risks and actions to mitigate those risks.
The role supports the Associate Director of Finance in implementing the financial strategy and provides expert business and financial advice to both organisations to support decision making.
Key responsibilities include:
- To lead and manage the Management Accounting function in order to deliver a top-quality service
- Develop and maintain effective reporting of group financial management information to Trust regulators, Derbyshire System and a range of internal stakeholders
- Manage the overall preparation of the group financial plan working in collaboration with a range of key stakeholders across the Derbyshire System and Trust
- Work closely in a business partnering capacity with senior management and clinical staff at the Trust including the Executive and Divisional Management Teams, directly influencing strategic and business decision making
- Provide leadership to the corporate finance team including staff development, ensuring training needs are identified and met
- Responsible for the co-ordination across divisions of efficiency plans
- Take an outward focus to transformation, researching best practice and utilising information benchmarking information such as ‘Model Hospital’
- Line management of the Head of Costing role and leadership of the costing agenda, including clinical engagement in the costing transformation programme
- Lead on the financial elements of the Trust’s income contracts
- Represent the Trust at national and regional meetings and events, and contribute to policy making on behalf of the organisation
The successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant with significant post qualification experience within the NHS or wider public sector. You will have proven management and leadership skills, and the ability to build effective collaborative relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
