Battle Abbey School is looking to recruit a passionate and creative Head of Drama to drive forward our renowned drama department. The successful candidate will be able to deliver GCSE Drama and A Level Theatre Studies. They must also be able to drive forward outreach and continue our tradition of outstanding drama and music productions. This is a rare opportunity to lead our thriving Drama department and continue to build on our strong reputation for Performing Arts.
Drama is a taught throughout the curriculum and is a popular GCSE and A Level choice. The department benefits from a purpose built Performing Arts Centre. The atmospheric surroundings at Battle Abbey also allow opportunities for outdoor theatre and some stunning locations for students work in. The musical is performed in the neighbouring Battle Memorial Hall to allow for a bank or orchestra.
Our co-curricular productions allow students to get involved in all aspects of Theatre such as sound, lighting, stage management and set design. The Performing Arts team encourages students to participate, and we challenge students of all ages with productions ranging from “Sweeney Todd” and “The Music Man”, to “Coram Boy” and “Alice in Wonderland”.

Curriculum
Have a passion for Drama and excellent subject knowledge, which inspires students.
Ensure that the curriculum is exciting, challenging and engaging.
Provide appropriate drama opportunities and school wide productions
Provide stretch and challenge as well as differentiation where appropriate.
Support, implement and monitor School and departmental policies on curriculum matters.
Closely follow national and international curriculum developments.
Create and monitor Schemes of Work.
Organise and coordinate entries for public examinations.
Provide information on courses of study for internal and external purposes (e.g. for prospectuses or options booklets on the School website).
Create and promote a thriving cross co-curricular programme.
Promote and assist with the development and delivery of academic enrichment activities.
Departmental Management
To model the very best practice in teaching and learning and work with the Performing Arts team to ensure memorable learning experiences for all pupils.
Monitor assessment and reporting across the department.
Ensure that feedback and assessment is in line with school policy and enables students to make excellent progress.
To drive high standards of positive behaviour and academic standards among pupils and supports colleagues in doing the same.
Delegate responsibilities where appropriate.
Provide examples of good practice and facilitate a strong working relationship with fellow performing arts departments
Promote the appropriate use of technology in the learning experience of pupils, including the provision and curation of a vibrant profile on Firefly.
Submit an annual departmental budget and oversee departmental spending and stock.
Other Duties
To deliver all requested duties as a Battle Abbey School staff member
To complete an annual department review.
Engage in regular departmental meetings and line management.
Take part in and provide coaching as part of CPD.
Attend and contribute to Heads of Department meetings.
Ensure the safe running of all activities within the department, including making an annual review of Health and Safety.
