The opportunity

We are looking for a dynamic and creative Head of Data to lead our data strategy. Transforming the way that data is used to support our business and continuing the ongoing development of the capability of our organisation in using data here at The Openwork Partnership.

This senior leadership role requires outstanding communication skills and the ability to present complex data topics to the non-technical business user. Highly commercial in your approach, you will challenge and stimulate debate across the business and beyond to our network of advisers.

Although not a technology role in itself, there will be a requirement to work closely with our Technology team to deliver data acquisition, storage and usage infrastructure to meet the current and future needs of the business.

This is a hybrid role, requiring an average of 2 days per week in our Swindon office.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Develop, advance, and deliver the Openwork Data Strategy being the owner of Data principles in-line with business goals.
  • Build effective business partnering relationships across the Openwork Partnership to drive a culture of data compliance and integrity, recognising data as a corporate asset.
  • Working with Chief Technical Officer and Data Warehouse technical teams to ensure technical solutions align with a wider design context and for technology change
  • Accountable for budget/spend for data resources and data initiatives.
  • Act as an escalation point for data issues and challenges identified, and work with business and technical teams to address these.
  • Create a centre of excellence and develop a data community, with the aim to increase data literacy, data compliance, and data quality across the business.


What will you need to succeed?

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing Data Strategies at an enterprise level.
  • Established experience in leadership and development of teams in technical and data environments.
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering multiple elements of Information Management (architecture, operations, reference / master / meta data mgt / warehousing / MI & BI, data quality, and data governance)
  • Exposure to a Financial Services or regulated environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of how to drive and support Data Governance initiatives at Enterprise level.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements in relation to data.
  • Knowledge of methods for supporting self-managing / agile teams.
  • Ability to set and articulate a compelling vision.
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills, listening, speaking and explaining complex topics to non-technical users.
  • Presenting data that is relatable and understood by the business users to inform business decisions; ability to translate data complexity to all audiences.
  • Ability to balance strategic needs against tactical demands.
  • Ability to coach, motivate and empower teams to deliver to a vision.
  • Ability to drive change, implementing governance process.
  • Resource management and team building to galvanise and motivate agile team members.
  • Excellent communicator, able to document and present plans and solutions to a range of diverse problems.
