We’ve produced everything from intricate miniature models for Aardman Animations feature films through to large scale themed interiors for the Harry Potter Studio Tour, Tokyo.

We operate from our own fully equipped workshop in Bristol, with several in house departments (covering design, creative tech, carpentry, metalwork, model-making, sculpting, spray and artwork finishes).

Recognised for our distinctive creative approach and exceptional aptitude for immersive visitor experience, we have the creative talent to tackle almost any project of any scale. We love what we do, and this is translated into the stunning creations we produce.

We’re currently looking for a department head to run our team of skilled carpenters. Working alongside project leads, project managers and the in-house creative team, the Head of Carpentry will schedule work into the department. Allocating staff to each project, you will keep a close eye on the production schedule, whilst actively working on carpentry jobs coming through.

The role would suit time served carpenters, with build management experience in events/exhibitions, bar/restaurant fit outs, large scale set/scenic works etc.

Working predominantly from our premises in Bristol, the role will require occasional site installation work.

  • Create an inspiring team environment with open communication and a positive culture
  • Evaluate carpentry requirements of each project and allocate staff accordingly
  • Attend regular production meetings and work closely with Projects Co-ordinator to update department schedule
  • Collaborate closely with other Heads of Department, to ensure timely handover where carpentry integrates with other processes

  • Monitor department stock levels and place orders when required
  • Efficiently organise department workspace, assess tools/kit requirements and ensure tools are adequately maintained
  • Ensure all health and safety requirements are adhered to
  • Assist Project Management team with quotations, providing estimates for production time & materials
  • Attend reviews for your team alongside HR
  • Act as key holder (on rota to open/lock up)

Essential:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ professional carpentry / joinery experience
  • Previous experience of running teams, managing budgets & schedules
  • Sound knowledge of materials, processes, safety standards and procedures
  • Ability to read technical working drawings, work accurately and with attention to detail
  • Ability to construct bespoke pieces in a timely yet durable manner
  • Competent in the safe operation of power tools
  • Excellent time management, communication & leadership skills
