Job Purpose:


As the Head of Bid Management you will lead this high performing central bid production team. The Apogee Bid Team are responsible for the management, production and submission of bid responses across the different segments of Public Sector and other key Private Sector verticals. The bid team are closely aligned to Sales ensuring a seamless transition from sales pursuit to bid submission, capturing key win themes and market segment insight. You will work closely with the Sales Management team to ensure we manage the effective allocation of bid production resources. A key aspect of this role is to develop and support team members in delivering high levels of quality content with effective time management. You will manage the bid production team with overall direct management responsibility for the Senior Bid Managers, Bid Writers and Bid Coordinators. You will be responsible for managing the proposal review process prior to submission and will continually look to identify and implement process improvements to the bid function. Important aspects within the role include working alongside senior stakeholders within other departments to ensure the bid responses are aligned to the Company strategy. The role will also include continual analysis of results and market trends providing key insights to Sales Directors and Chief Sales Officer


Responsibilities:


  • Own, manage, evolve and develop the end-to-end bid process in line with industry best practice
  • Responsible for the ongoing education of the Head of Department (HoD) peer group on what a winning bid strategy looks like.
  • Manage virtual bid teams and inputs from key stakeholders, typically engaging with sales, marketing, product teams, finance, commercial, legal and project management / delivery.
  • Work with the Sales lead to develop a clear win strategy for each bid and ensure win themes are clear and compelling.
  • Understand and resolve complex technical, strategic and business issues for Bid purposes
  • Oversee and review the qualitative aspects of the bid.
  • Risk tracking and management throughout the bid process.
  • Contributing to the written proposal - both in terms of content and presentation (such as providing guidance around the executive summary).
  • Ownership of setting and delivery of key KPIs such as average quality score and win rate.
  • Ultimately responsible for management of an up to date bid library and relevant market content
  • Manage the bid budget and monitor and report on overall performance against KPIs.
  • Ensure timescales are achieved at each step of the bid process, including all internal governance, while taking the initiative in setting realistic deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with bid processes across the bid team itself and the sales teams, having responsibility for adherence to all key stages and to provide coaching cross functionally where adherence isn't met.
  • Coordinate and plan all client presentations required as part of the bid submission
  • Drive continuous improvement, through post-bid reviews, both internally and with clients
  • Support of the Framework Manager with the collation of data and ad hoc requests
  • Ensure that you and all team members adhere to company policy, governance and remain up to date with internal training requirements
  • Support the Sales Director(s) with support in compiling market profiling

Experience & Skills Required:


  • Experience of creating bid strategies and managing the bid process
  • Experience of writing bids as part of a tender process
  • Skills in resolving complex technical, strategic, and business issues for Bid purposes
  • Demonstrate experience in management of staff
  • Must be an excellent communicator and comfortable working at C-suite / Director Level with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven experience of continuous and process improvement with a strong commercial background.
  • Has the ability to manage complex, multi-workstream opportunities.
  • Solid understanding and management of internal governance procedures.
  • Resilient with a positive impact on others; able to balance complex and conflicting demands, with sound influencing skills.
