Group Financial Accountant, London

The Team
The Corporate Accounting Team supports offices across Europe and the Middle East as part of the shared service function. It works closely with Overseas Accountants and are responsible for all financial accounting and reporting for the EMEA business including but not limited to month end close, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany reconciliations and statutory and compliance filings (VAT, Financial Statements, and so on).
The Role
Joining an established finance team of 41 based in the European Head Office in London, the Group Financial Accountant will report to the Director of Corporate Accounting and will work alongside the Finance Team, external advisors, auditors and the wider business as required.
The Responsibilities
Month end - GAAP
- Completing monthly close to global deadlines including preparation and posting of month-end journals
- Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including timely resolution of differences
- Preparation of intercompany invoices
Monthly local statutory accounts, fiscal and compliance
- Prepare monthly data pack for local accountants and share to agreed timelines
- On a quarterly basis review and reconcile local GAAP / management accounts, understand differences and where appropriate make adjustments to GAAP and/or local books
- Manage the external relationships with external advisors, including auditors and local accountants
- Lead the local country and UK audits ensuring resulting in a timely submission filing
- Compile data for foreign VAT and other fiscal returns and ensuring these are correctly reported to the local fiscal authority on a timely basis and correctly accounted for in GAAP books
Other
- Advise on VAT compliance matters and VAT queries from the Project Teams, Accounts Payable and Billing team
- Assist with the preparation of the UK group financial statements
- Support the preparation of other fiscal returns e.g. Corporation Tax, PSA, Statistical Returns etc
- Liaising with Accounts Payable and Billing Teams to ensure that costs are correctly allocated to each business unit
- Work with the Tax team to ensure CIT returns, withholding tax and transfer pricing obligations are met
- Assistance with ad-hoc projects as and when required
- Manage, develop and mentor junior team members
- Ensuring a robust control environment is operated and maintained at all times
The requirements
- Qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA) with 3-5 years PQE experience in industry with a background in audit/practice, ideally with a top tier firm
- Previous experience operating in an international multi-site business with exposure to FX transactions
- Experience of overseeing the preparation of local GAAP financial statements, in addition to group financial statements in accordance with FRS 102
- Experience in VAT preparation, review and submission
- Strong technical knowledge
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel
- Consolidation experience is advantageous
- Professional services industry experience is desirable
- Demonstrable ability to meet deadlines, results orientated and "can do" attitude
- A natural team player who can interact easily with your colleagues and have strong communication skills
