Brief Description
Salary: Band 2B, starting salary £68,099 raising to £76,612.You will also receive £6000 car allowance.
Closing date: 3rd of April 2023. This role can be based in either Milton Keynes, Birmingham or Manchester.
What will you be doing?
The purpose of this role is to take direction from the Finance Director, to lead the business provision for corporate analysis of financial, benchmark and performance information, to provide guidance and direction for future strategy and business direction. In this role you will also develop plans and models that highlight opportunities for improvement in both financial and non-financial areas. You will also create models that support the longer term business and economic planning horizon.

About the role:
1. Lead a programme of corporate analysis to highlight areas of financial/process improvement in support of the business objectives for the Control Period within the guidelines set from the strategy set.
2. Develop periodic reporting regimes to provide appropriate financial information in support of DfT/ORR requirements.
3. Liaise internally with Group, Planning and Regulation to set up financial analysis and reporting regimes required as necessary.
4. Report corporate investment results to all internal and external stakeholders analysing results by source, activity, location and owner.
5. Monitor and analyse financial performance against objectives identifying risks and opportunities and other issues and corrective action required if necessary.
6. Produce critiques of reporting unit results to support the Management Business Reviews highlighting areas of potential inefficiency and efficiency savings.
7. Lead the provision of a flexible analyst team, providing high priority analytical support to senior directors and managers as required.
8. Produce ad hoc reports on emerging issues.
In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to be/ to have:
- Full membership of a relevant professional body
- Demonstrable experience in a relevant financial or business discipline
- Relevant post qualification experience
- Excellent financial analytical and modelling experience with investment appraisal techniques
- Experience advising and collaborating with senior staff at Director and Board level.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel (or equivalent spreadsheet package) and analytical skills to critically analyse large data
- Engaging, relevant and adaptable communication and presentation skills,
Desirable
- Experience of working in a matrix management organisation
- Experience within at least 2 different finance disciplines within Network Rail and/or external organisations
- Other relevant professional or academic qualifications
- Demonstrates good team behaviours and adherence to work place ethics
