Job Summary
This position will join a team of communications professionals to connect communications and digital strategies through visual design and help tell the agency’s story and communicate with users of our services. By developing visually appealing and engaging materials that follow State of Minnesota and MNIT branding standards, you will help share messages targeted to MNIT staff and state government employees, and delivered through digital touchpoints such as websites, email, and social media. The designer will be responsible for this work by creating and implementing illustrations, icons, video, photography, layouts, bulk email, presentations, and templates.
This position is hybrid. It requires an employee to telework and to occasionally be onsite as needed.
Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a remote telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies.
Candidates residing outside of Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) require additional review prior to telework approval upon becoming a finalist.
Candidates located in Minnesota, or a bordering state, do not require additional review.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:
This position requires an associate degree in design, visual arts, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of professional design experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro.
Experience must also include:
Basic experience with photography on SLR cameras and smartphones.
Proficiency with photography color correction and post-production.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, such as Word and PowerPoint.
Experience designing and formatting images for social media.
An online portfolio of work demonstrating professional skill in graphic design, layout design, image selection/production for print and/or web must be included as a link in your resume.

Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency with developing assets for SharePoint and web content management system(s), such as SDL Tridion.
Experience designing bulk emails - has basic working knowledge of HTML and CSS, as well as best practices for email design.
Video production and editing skills (short instructional videos, podcasts, and video meeting technologies), proficiency with Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc.
Team player with a collaborative spirit, willing to pitch in and do whatever it takes.
Familiarity with digital accessibility standards and technologies, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
- Strong attention to detail.
- Organizational skills: must be able to manage many responsibilities and projects simultaneously, meet tight deadlines, and adjust easily to changing schedules and priorities.
