Under general supervision, the Graphic Artist performs a variety of graphic and illustrative work in the creation and design of physical and digital publications, reports, exhibits, displays, instructional materials, and camera-ready art work as requested by clients.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
- Methods, practices, and techniques of display art, graphic design, and photography
- Computer graphic programs such as Adobe Creative Suite including Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
- Layout, text, and style techniques and aesthetic concepts
- Complementary and contrasting colors, trends, mixing, tinting, screening and design enhancements
- Pre-production techniques for both electronic and print mediums including image cleanup, masking, and pre-press production
- Fundamentals of printing processes
- Microsoft Suite products, including PowerPoint and Word
- Design Sense – Creating work products that are functional, intuitive and aesthetically pleasing
- Industry Monitoring – Grasping the external political, economic, competitive, and social factors affecting the industry
- Professional & Technical Expertise – Applying technical subject matter to the job
- Using Technology – Working with electronic hardware and software applications
- Adaptability – Responding positively to change and modifying behavior as the situation requires
- Attention to Detail – Focusing on the details of work content, work steps, and final work products
- Innovation – Imagining and devising new and better ways of doing things
- Learning Agility – Seeking learning opportunities and applying the lessons to one’s work
- Self-Management – Showing personal organization, self-discipline, and dependability

Experience: One year of experience using computer graphic programs to design, develop, and produce graphic designs, multimedia products, and original digital media.
Additional Requirements: A valid California driver’s license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites may be required.
Hybrid remote schedules may be available. To ensure the health and safety of its staff, LACOE may require employees to provide evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19.

Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Based on full-time assignment:
- Although new employees usually begin at the first salary step, advanced salary step placement may be requested
- 12 vacation days per year, 18 after 7 years of service
