In a nutshell
This in-house design team provides a proactive and reactive resource supporting the wider Property and Commercial Operations Teams on new business critical initiatives, while leading on comms/signage only roll-back and forward projects.
Working closely with the Signage Project Delivery Manager (team lead) you will be responsible for producing print ready artwork for a number of exciting retail change projects ranging from taking a brief to produce creative designs that align to company brand guidelines/principles to producing/updating specification/principle documentation.
Communication is key and expectations are high. A regular drumbeat of communication is required to provide real clarity of to all stakeholders (from store colleagues and up to director level) on your project status in a consistent and compelling way is essential to your success.
As well as understanding design for print, you will need to be an experienced presentation specialist as you will also work cross-platform to provide presentation, specification and branding packs that will be used for the wider business.
What I need to do
- Take all jobs from brief to signed off, from supplied artworks to preparing your own artwork for print ready PDFs.
- Ensure all files are artworked and ready for printing, and meet our (SLA).
- The role will also include artworking using existing templates, creative development of existing templates that meet our SLA requirements
- Produce detailed project packs to support the Trial Implementation Team.
- Offer any technical advice regarding pre-press where necessary to the wider team.
- Have a clear understanding of Sainsbury’s brand design language, guidelines/principles and the customer journey
- Ensure all deadlines are met according to production dates while ensuring a regular drumbeat of communication.
- Production of new and updating of existing specification/principle documentation.
How I will succeed
- Quality control and proofing of work produced (working with printers and agency as required).
- Technically focused but with a passion for well-crafted design.
- Understanding of Sainsbury’s brand guidelines/principles - be aware of working within limits, and when to push the boundaries.
- Ensuring quality control procedures are adhered to at all times
- Absorb and digest the tasks allocated quickly and clearly.
- The ability to work to extremely tight deadlines and work unsupervised at times is essential while delivering projects against business objectives and brand principles/guidelines on time and at pace.
- Confident in producing/updating high quality brand/specification pack for the wider business
- A proactive, clear and open communicator with a can do attitude.
- Honest, open conversations to ensure everyone is clear and working together on finding the right answers.
- Build strong relationship with our Property, Retail, Procurement teams, wider Formats & Design team and external supplier base.
- Efficient communication skills (written, visual and verbal) - Communicate the project as a story, giving the audience relevant context to design decisions.
- Resilience along with a positive can do attitude are key to being successful allowing you to take the rough with the smooth in your stride.
- Specific project measures delivered to make our in-store environment better for customers, simpler for colleagues to manage and cheaper for Sainsbury’s.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Can demonstrate how each store they are making every store they touch even better than the last.
What I need to know
- Graphic Design degree or industry recognised equivalent qualification.
- Creative Suite:
- Indesign - you should be very competent- including familiarity with outputting print ready PDF’s.
- Illustrator & Photoshop- good basic skills essential.
- Experience/knowledge of:
- Print production and artworking.
- Graphic design and retail environments (agency or client side).
- Delivering specific retail and in-store communication.
- Layout, typography and retouching.
- Understanding technical drawings, elevations and floorplans.
- An understanding of Microsoft packages (Excel) would also be desirable for compiling briefs.
- Strong people and project management skills to ensure activity is delivered in full and on time with a high level of professionalism.
