The Digital Publishing Team
Currently our focus is building and managing the platform used to publish on the Scottish Government’s core websites – including mygov.scot and gov.scot. We’re also working closely with teams in building digital products for end users, listening to their feedback, understanding their problems and working to design successful solutions.
Looking back on a successful first year in this role we believe you can be proud of making a substantial contribution to our design library, including components which you have been seen through all discovery and delivery phases. The knowledge shared and time taken with stakeholders means they have a deeper understanding of user centred design and how they can work with you and others in creating great digital services.
Responsibilities:
Reporting into our Lead Graphic Designer, you will be working especially closely with User Researchers, Business Analysts, Front End Developers and Interaction Designers across the full digital product journey including research, design, development and live.
Specific duties will include:
Working with user researchers to understand and champion the needs of users and promote accessible and inclusive design- Collaborating with service owners and other User Centred Design (UCD) professionals using a variety of static and dynamic methods to prototype and validate design ideas
- Designing user interfaces (UI) for digital channels and products across a range of devices
- Creating typography, layouts, interactive elements, and proposed design solutions for end to end service experiences and graphic campaigns across multiple channels
- Understanding design constraints, communicating these effectively and delivering projects within them
- Ensuring standards are being met, particularly for accessible and inclusive design
- Participating in and/or support programme and project assurance activities
- Other duties as required by SG to support wider corporate activities

Essential Criteria
1. Experience of using industry-standard creative and presentation software, social-media platforms, animation software.
2. Experience of designing user interfaces for digital channels across a range of devices.
3. Demonstrable knowledge of print management and processes.
4. Proven experience of designing digital and print layouts.

Remote Working
We operate a flexible location policy, with a contractual named base in Scotland of either Victoria Quay (Edinburgh) or Atlantic Quay (Glasgow).
Staff are assigned to the base office, however there may be a need for travel to other Scottish Government offices/other locations depending on assigned work.

*** Digital (DDaT) Pay Supplement
This post attracts a £5000 DDAT pay supplement after a 3 months DDaT competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments and are subject to regular review.
