Job description
Free Training prior to employment; Coding Experience Not Required when Applying
Who are we?
We are a mission-driven technology firm that enables graduates with or without coding experience to kick-start their careers in technology. We prioritise outstanding graduates from low-income backgrounds, provide them with world-class technical and professional training, and employ them as high-performance technology consultants for two years. After two years, you may have the option of staying on as consultants with us, moving inhouse with your client company or working elsewhere if you desire.
Our mission is social mobility – we achieve this through exceptional training, career coaching and opening doors to employment for those who have the ability and mindset but not the access.
What makes us different?
- We invite applicants from all backgrounds – prior coding experience or STEM degrees are not required
- We offer an exceptional technical training program – by completing our training program in software and date engineering you will have the fundamental technical skills required to get started on a highly successful career path and hit the ground running from day one on the job
- In addition, we offer high-performance career coaching and professional development training – This will allow you to successfully stand out amongst your peers and give you the professional toolkit to succeed in the working world. Our on-going coaching continues even as employment begins.
- We offer a high trainer-to-trainee ratios: This allows for superior coaching at both a cohort and individual level through classroom and small group training and 1-on-1 individual coaching.
- We offer long-term mentorship options for professional success: We can provide access to mentors and connection who are highly qualified industry veterans and well established in their field.
- We offer a broad, but close-knit community that will help you belong and succeed
Most of all, what makes us different is that we care about each of our trainees as individuals – and we truly believe that the long-term success, happiness and wellbeing of our trainees is what makes what we do impactful.
Who is this ad for?
If you are interested in a career in technology but feel you require some extra help to secure that career – then Sigma Labs is for you.
Who do we look for?
- People who are proactive and conscientious, able to spot an opportunity and show initiative and determination to make it happen
- People who are coachable, eager to learn and develop while open to feedback and support
- People who can collaborate with others through clear and structured communication and an openness to new ideas
- People who have recently graduated or are graduating soon: our training program and subsequent job are full-time
- People who have an interest in starting their career in technology
Our trainees are either:
- From non-technical backgrounds and non-STEM degrees with limited prior experience in coding, but are interested in a career in technology
- From STEM degrees, including computer science and engineering degrees, who need more real-life practical technology training to succeed in the workplace.
If this sounds like you, then we’d love to hear from you.
What does the offer look like?
- World-class Technical Training: a free 12-16 week intensive programme covering software and data engineering: from JavaScript, SQL and Python to industry best practices (OOP, TDD and Agile). The structured training programme mirrors how a real-life team environment would be in the workplace, while allowing for enough flexible learning that you can do at your own pace & convenience.
- High-Performance Career Coaching: This includes interview training, understanding how a business works, problem-solving tools that some of the world’s most prominent management consultancies use, and support for working out where you want your career to go.
- The Role: After competition of our training, the aim is to place you with one of our clients in a technology role and employ you for 2 years with a starting salary of more than £30,000 per year in Year 1 with an increase in Year 2. The employment with one of our clients is not guaranteed, and our clients make the final decisions on which candidates from our training programme get picked for the role. If any trainee does not get selected by our clients, we work with the trainee on a 1-on-1 basis to help secure a job with a technology company that is outside our client base but on a similar starting salary.
- The Location: the training is largely remote, but we will bring you to our central London office for a few days during the first week of the training program. All of our clients are London based and therefore our consultants will have to move to London once placed with a client.
- The Future: At the end of the 2 years, the client may offer you full-time employment which you can choose to accept, or you can continue as a Sigma Labs consultant working with other clients of ours or you can work elsewhere if you prefer. You should be able to earn £40k to £50k at this point.
Other benefits:
- In addition to the high-quality technical and professional training you obtain and the potential employment after, you would also benefit from the following:
- Becoming part of the Sigma Labs community and alumni network: This is a community of both experienced professionals with excellent track records at world-class companies whom you could tap into for mentorship and young professionals who have recently started out in their careers who you could tap into as a ‘buddy’ to guide you as you start your career
- Travel and lodging costs covered during hiring and training
- Laptops provided throughout training
- Private health insurance
- Access to a range of accredited courses
Who can apply:
Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis using the following. You must have:
- Economic: at least one of the following applied to you between the ages of 11 and 16: grew up in a household with a total annual income of less than £43k; attended a non-academically selective state school; were eligible for free school meals; received local authority care
